Off The Beaten Track – Auburn IN, An Auto Museum-land In The Heart Of America

Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum (ACD), Road-Test.orgLast year my wife and I made a special trip to Battle Ground, Indiana (just outside of Lafayette), to visit one thing that had been on our ‘bucket list’ since the day we met…Wolf Park [WolfPark.org]. It took us 8 hours of driving to get there – but it was worth every minute. Our experience of getting a wet kiss from a real wolf and plenty of photo opportunities can be found HERE.

What we didn’t expect on our journey was the wonderful city of Auburn, Indiana. We stopped in Auburn for a coffee break – only to discover there are a number of auto and air museums there. If you love cars and/or planes – this is your mecca. You simply MUST take the time to visit Auburn, or even make it an actual trip destination.

It’s July in Toronto – It’s IndyCar Time!

TravelBloggers.ca, Honda Indy of Toronto, Indy Car

One of the highlights on the IndyCar Series circuit is the July stop in Toronto. Each year the race in Toronto turns out to be one of the most exciting on the calendar. There are always bumps, crashes and controversy, a driver can still win the race even if he starts from the back – and that’s why the fans love it. But wait, there’s more! That’s right, there’s 2inTO! 2014 marks the second year in a row that Toronto will host two, back-to-back IndyCar races that are part of a fantastic annual Canadian Summer Festival by the shores of Lake Ontario.

Having covered the Toronto Indy photographically for various media outlets since the year 2000 we were ready to experience it all from the other side of the fence. Last year (2013) we decided to cover the event from a fans perspective for our own website – TravelBloggers.ca. It was great to actually enjoy the festivities simply as real race fans – no early morning photographer’s meetings, no daily deadlines – just soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the whole event – something we’d never experienced before.

CAA Calls On Drivers To Exercise Caution During Summer Holiday Season

CAA logo2QUEBEC CITY, July 19, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ –  With thousands of Canadians set to hit the road over the next few weeks throughout Canada and the United States for the traditional two-week summer holiday period, CAA would like to remind everyone to drive safely, and keep in mind a number of important tips.

Start off on the right foot
One of the keys to preparing for a long drive is to get plenty of rest beforehand. Since we all know that “slow and steady wins the race,” it’s better to plan the journey to include frequent stops (ideally every two hours) so that there is time to stretch your muscles, give the kids a break and get something to eat.

“Fatigue is the third-leading cause of death on Quebec’s roads,” stresses Yvon Lapointe, Director, Road Safety Education, CAA-Quebec. “Taking a break for a few minutes every couple of hours helps deal with fatigue and the accumulated stress of driving. As well, having a light snack during these breaks doesn’t cause the same sleepy feeling one often gets after eating a heavy meal.” Read the rest of this entry »

SafeHarness: Personal, Portable Seat belts for Coach Buses

SafeHarness Launches A Crowdfunding Campaign

SafeHarness - Bus SeatBelt

With SafeHarness, the first and only personal, portable seatbelt, our main concern and primary goal is to save lives and give people the choice in this basic seatbelt safety during motor coach travel.

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) July 01, 2013

SafeHarness is all about saving lives and providing a safer environment for those engaging in motor coach travel—particularly the safety of our children and those with special needs.  SafeHarness is patented and is the first and only portable seatbelt for coach buses.

Although new regulations have been envisioned requiring all new motor coach buses to be outfitted with seatbelts in the future, these regulations will not be fully implemented until 2017 at the earliest.  Note, these are merely regulations and not laws.  In addition, these regulations do not include the addition of seatbelts on older models of coach buses.  These older buses, estimated to be on the road, in some instances for as many as 10 to 15 years, don’t have an option for basic seatbelt safety…until now.

SafeHarness, the first and only personal, portable seatbelt for motor coach buses, has launched a 50-day campaign on crowdfunding platform Indiegogo.com. The creators hope to raise $50,000 to help bring these innovative products to market in order for all to have a choice in basic motor coach safety.

Donate to the cause and receive your very own SafeHarness as a thank you!! Read the rest of this entry »
