Road Test: 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Text: Iain Shankland / Images: Ford

Last year I drove the Ford Fusion SEL and was considerably impressed by it – so much so, that I recommended it to my brother-in-law when he was looking at buying a new vehicle. He loved it so much he bought one.

I’ve driven a number of hybrids over the years, but never the Fusion. I liked the regular 4-cylinder version, so I grabbed the keys to the hybrid to see if it was any better. One thing it for sure, they are quite different.

2010 Ford Fusion

It’s been a number of years since I last drove a Fusion. It had that one thing going for it … the designation “Sport” or “GT” … that always grabs my attention regardless of the vehicle – save a Hummer. But it had better live up to the name or I’d be more than a little perturbed!

Fear not, the Edge Sport is actually sporty – if you can call a CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) “sporty.” It kinda helps with those big honkin’ 22 inch wheels and the body colored lower cladding – that makes it look sporty enough – but how does it drive? Let’s find out…

Road Test: 2010 Ford Flex SEL AWD

2010 Ford Flex

The first time I actually got to see the Flex in person was at the 2008 Canadian International Auto Show. Superstar designer Chip Foose was introducing his version of the Flex along with the Foose F-150. My wife decided right then and there that the Ford Flex was going to be her next vehicle. Did Chip (the man who she says puts the “magic” in magic markers .. have you seen this man draw!?) influence her decision or was it the funky look of the Flex? I don’t know, but I’ve never known her to make a decision on a vehicle in anything less than 9 or 10 months of constant point-counterpoint objections!! Read the rest of this entry »
