Road Test: 2015 Buick Verano

Road-Test.orgI’ve never been a big fan of Buick cars – or GM in general, even though I’ve owned a couple of Chevy’s (Camaro & Malibu) and a Saturn. My experience with the Chevrolet brand has been terrible, but I must admit I really liked our Saturn Vue. So why am I driving a Buick Verano? Quite by accident really – my wife’s car was in the shop for repairs and the dealership gave us a rental. Being a car guy – it’s never just a drive – everything is a test drive for me and so why not? Let’s give this car the full test treatment….

What Is It?

  • Small-mid-size sedan
  • Buick are way off the mark by offering this as a luxury car
  • Up against similar cars like the Honda Civic and Ford Focus, this car is a true, fierce competitor

Honda Civic Celebrates 17 Years as Canada’s Best-Selling Passenger Car

Road-Test.org

Civic out-paces nearest competitor by more than 15,000 units

MARKHAM, ON (January 5, 2015) – With sales of 66,057 units in 2014, the Honda Civic outsold its closest competitor by more than 15,000 units to retain its position as Canada’s best-selling passenger car for the 17th consecutive year. This remarkable feat is a testament to the durability, quality and reliability that Canadians have come to expect from Honda and the delicate balance of safety, fuel efficiency and fun-to-drive attributes that Civic delivers, year after year.

“We truly value the trust that our customers put in us when they buy a Civic,” said Dave Gardner, vice president of sales and marketing, Honda Canada Inc. “Nearly every Civic sold in Canada is built for Canadians, by Canadians, right here in our Ontario manufacturing facility.  Seventeen years is an accomplishment that the entire Honda family can be very proud of; from our over 4,000 associates in Alliston, to our regional and national staff and thousands of associates at our 231 Honda dealers across the country.”

Since 1973, more than 3.8 million Honda Civics have been manufactured by Canadians at Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Ontario and more than 1.8 million Civics have been parked in driveways across the country over the years. Read the rest of this entry »

Road Test: 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS

Text: Iain Shankland / Images: Iain Shankland/ Hyundai

I’ve never been a fan of budget-priced cars and have always done my best to stay away from them if I could afford a better one — even if it cost more money. That changed when I set my eyes on the all-new 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Even the ugliest of chicks will have construction workers doing a double-take, and whistling at her (car) when she drives by.

This is a looker from every angle. I have two questions:1) Why did it take so long for a budget-conscious vehicle to look this good, and 2) Until now, why have cheap/reasonably-priced cars been so ugly?

It doesn’t cost more money to design a good-looking car, so why are the Nissan Versa/Juke/Leaf so ugly that they give Stevie Wonder the shivers? How many people have become violently ill when a Citroen drives past? Don’t tell me it’s all about cost, because the smaller and cheaper all-new 2012 Hyundai Accent (coming soon) looks just as good as the Elantra!

Hybrid Vehicles – How Do They Work And Should I Buy One?

My main goal is always to learn if they actually sipped fuel as promised, or whether all the hype is just another game of smoke and mirrors that tree huggers have become so adept at feeding the general public by way of the media.

During my week with the vehicles, numerous questions came my way from friends, family and complete strangers. Most were confused about what exactly a hybrid is, and that got me to thinking – how many other people are confused about them? So, with my readers in mind, here is a brief explanation and summary of my experience with hybrids – the good and the bad – if there is any. Read the rest of this entry »

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS

While the base Lancer without the lower body kit and rear wing is no dog, the GTS adds enough looks and pizzazz to make it a far more attractive car. But it’s not just different in the looks department – for 2009 the GTS got a bigger engine and therefore becomes a completely different car from other Lancer models.
