Acura provides first look at possible NSX interior design concept at 2013 NAIAS in Detroit

DETROIT, Mich., Jan. 15, 2013– Acura today unveiled a new NSX Concept that showcases the evolution of the next-generation supercar’s styling and design, including a first-ever look at one possible direction for the next-generation NSX interior design.

“This further evolution of the Acura NSX Concept design is remarkably true to the original concept styling,” said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations. “We’re making great progress in delivering on the expectations we created a year ago, with advanced technology that will bring new levels of performance and a unique, dynamic experience to the exotic sports car market.”

The new Acura NSX Concept is based on the expected underpinnings of the vehicle Acura will bring to market. Still, the new NSX Concept maintains its low and wide stance with the dynamic and alluring proportions that debuted in the original NSX Concept at the 2012 North American International Auto Show — highlighted by clean, modern and simple surfacing, and edgy details that communicate supercar attitude and a high-tech feel.

The new NSX Concept also features a first-ever look at one potential direction for the next-generation Acura NSX interior design. The design concept is founded on a “Human Support Cockpit” theme, a strong expression of Acura’s product direction focused on “the synergy between man and machine.” The interior package boasts outstanding visibility, an exotic driving position, and an intuitive “Simple Sports Interface” that minimizes interior clutter, allowing the driver to focus on the driving experience.

New 2013 Lincoln MKS and MKT

New technologies on the 2013 Lincoln MKS and MKT deliver better handling, more power, and improved fuel economy along with more refinement and new technologies that help drivers reduce accident risks as well as providing an even more engaging driving experience – important new reasons to consider Lincoln’s newest vehicles.

Ford invited me to test drive these two new vehicles and I have to be honest and say they were extremely impressive. I’ve never been a big fan of Luxo-barge type vehicles – they are just too soft and mushy on the road unless you want to be asleep behind the wheel. The 2013 Lincoln MKS and MKT are unlike anything you’ll ever have driven in the past from Ford’s luxury division.

To drive the point home, we were encouraged to drive the 2012 MKS around a course that had lots of bends and twists, ensuring that we got a feel for the braking, steering and suspension in extreme circumstances. I got out of the 2012 more than impressed – I wouldn’t have guessed it could possibly handle that well.

Road Test: 2011 Hyundai Tucson GLS AWD

Text: Iain Shankland /  Images: Iain Shankland, Hyundai

For the last year or so Hyundai have been on a bit of a tear with new models coming out every few months – each one significantly better looking than the model it replaces. The Santa Fe was the first model to get the new treatment followed by a completely new model line-up in the case of the Genesis Coupe and Sedan, followed by the all-new Sonata that has earned numerous awards around the world. More new vehicles are coming in the next few months, but this week’s Road Test is the highly anticipated small CUV, the Tucson.

It’s been a few years since I last drove the Tucson. Having a look back at my previous review, it was all the way back to 2006, so it’s long overdue for another look. Other than the much improved looks (I think the last model looked like a Boston Terrier), there are a number of significant changes for the 2011 model year. Where the previous model looked like it was designed and built using whatever was left lying on the floor, the new model is striking in how different it looks from any other CUV on the road today. Conceived and engineered at Hyundai’s new design centre in Frankfurt, the design, handling and ride are very European. The Tucson’s unique styling begins at the signature hexagonal grille, extends up through sculptured hood lines and back through a double shoulder line extending from headlight to tail lights.

2010 Acura ZDX SH-AWD

2010 Acura ZDX

“The all-new 2010 Acura ZDX is a crossover utility vehicle with the design of a personal sports coupe. With the appearance of a performance coupe and the four-door convenience of a sedan and the utility of a CUV.”

That’s a quote directly from the press material.. and believe it or not, that’s exactly what the Acura ZDX is! Many times the press material is a bit off the mark, but the Acura people nailed it. Until I had the opportunity to actually drive the ZDX, I thought it was basically a CUV with less cargo room. It kinda is – but it’s far closer to a sports coupe than a sedan or CUV, albeit one on stilts.
