In the final qualifying round of the year at Watkins Glen International, a shortened session left a seven-minute shootout for drivers to run their fastest laps of the weekend, producing another La Rocca pole ahead of Wyatt Gooden and Rob Nicholas. F2000 Championship Series logoAfter starting from pole and briefly losing the lead, Robert La Rocca got around Wyatt Gooden and fended off Gooden on a restart, with the two cars making contact coming to the green and white flags. La Rocca would go onto take his 10th win of the 2012 F2000 Championship season, breaking the existing win record with a bit of drama. La Rocca had already locked up the Championship prior to the race, adding even more points for the pole, and yet another win. The Spectrum/Honda driver from Finland thus pulls out a 20 point lead (with drops calculated, per Series rules) over Brandon Newey, who finished second, ahead of Koykka’s teammate Neil Alberico, setting up a Championship showdown in the season finale scheduled for Sunday.
