Ecclestone proposes ‘Grand Slam’ F1 races and backs customer cars, not budget cap
Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed he is still at loggerheads with Mercedes over the new Concorde Agreement. The German carmaker’s team is the big missing name, after F1 chief executive Ecclestone announced recently he has agreed terms with “the majority” of the teams including Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull.
Mercedes may have withheld its signature from the new 2013 Concorde Agreement because of a disagreement about bonus money.
That is the claim of Germany’s authoritative Auto Motor und Sport, hot on the heels of Bernie Ecclestone’s news on Saturday that the “majority” of teams – including grandees Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren – have now agreed terms.

Trevor Foster commits to British-based team’s future
Ultra-experienced Trevor Foster (GB) has joined United Autosports as Race Engineer & Technical Director. Foster’s illustrious career spans over 40 years, running teams in Formulae Ford 1600, 2000 and Three before working in Formula One with Tyrrell, Team Lotus, Jordan and BAR.

Johnny Herbert will make his third appearance in 2010 as a formula one steward this weekend. The 46-year-old Briton, who won three grands prix during his career spanning 165 races until 2000, debuted in the role in Malaysia and then wore an FIA shirt again in Turkey.
Danny Sullivan will be in the stewards room this weekend in Singapore.
The 1985 Indy 500 winner debuted in the FIA’s new driver-representative role at Hockenheim in July. There, he was famously involved in the decision to fine Ferrari $100,000 and summon the team to the World Motor Sport Council for imposing illegal team orders.
FIA’s decision about the 13th team entry is due late this month.
Joan Villadelprat is eager for the FIA to make its decision about the identity of F1’s thirteenth team for 2011. The formula one veteran, who has worked at Tyrrell, McLaren, Ferrari, Benetton and Prost, is now pushing to bring his own Le Mans prototype and junior single seaters team Epsilon Euskadi onto the grid.
With United Autosports for epic 24 hour race in Belgium
Stefan Johansson will return to the wheel of an Audi this summer when the Swede drives a R8 LMS GT3 sports car for United Autosports in the Spa 24 Hours (31 July-1 August).The 53-year-old Los Angeles-based Scandinavian is a veteran of almost twenty 24 Hour races and won the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours in 1997 but will actually be making his début in the annual twice-around-the-clock Belgian encounter.
A press conference is then scheduled for the afternoon.
Epsilon Euskadi could be set to take another step towards becoming F1’s thirteenth and final team for the 2011 season. We reported in March that the Spanish outfit would apply for the berth following the FIA’s invitation for expressions of interest.
“The invitation comes a week before the race. It comes when it comes,” said Salo.
Mika Salo has become the latest former driver to agree to become a fourth formula one steward in 2010. The 43-year-old Finn contested more than 100 grands prix until 2002 with the likes of Lotus, Tyrrell, Arrows, BAR, Ferrari, Sauber and Toyota.
