24 Hours of Le Mans: Porsche has achieved its 18th overall Le Mans victory (updated²)

Porsche denies Toyota at Le Mans in dramatic last lap win

2016-06-19-0411 From midnight the duel between Porsche and Toyota for the 24 hour Le Mans race win had intensified but no-one would have expected such an ending. Before the final lap, Toyota seemed to be coming out on top but then the prototype stopped on track.

24 Hours of Le Mans: Porsche and Toyota battle for seconds in Le Mans

After 20 hours

2016-06-19-0181The thrilling fight for the win at Le Mans between Toyota and Porsche has gone on for hours, with the final stages of the 24-Hours race approaching. Until shortly before 11:00 hrs the number 2 Porsche 919 Hybrid with Marc Lieb (DE) at the wheel was leading, just now Toyota has gone back into P1 again.

24 Hours of Le Mans: Porsche leads in Le Mans in the early evening hours

The 24 Hours of Le Mans finally underway!

2016-06-18-Warm up-0049 After a very wet start and lots of close battles, four hours into the race the two Porsche 919 Hybrids are running in first (Bernhard/Hartley/Webber) and fourth (Dumas/Jani/Lieb) at the Le Mans 24 Hours. The leading Porsche is only 23 seconds ahead of the fastest Toyota.

24 Hours of Le Mans: 18th pole position for Porsche in Le Mans

The Porsche Team with the innovative 919 Hybrid secured the 18th pole position in total for the brand at the Le Mans 24-Hours

2016-06-15_Wednesday-0222 Due to mostly wet track conditions in both qualifying sessions on Thursday, held from 7 pm to 9 pm and from 10 pm until midnight, there were no improvements in lap times for the top cars compared to the first qualifying session from Wednesday night.

WEC: Porsche takes second place and leads both World Championship standings

The 1m45.111 lap, posted by Webber early in the session, was over 2 seconds quicker than the current lap record
