The selection for the Team Canada Scholarship is a difficult process as there are so many great young candidates.
2014 has been a stellar year for many of the nominees and in the end one driver stood out among his peers. In just his second season of racing, this years winner left his mark with his first Championship and multiple podiums across the two F1600 Championships in Ontario and Quebec.
In only its 3rd year the Team Canada Scholarship has certainly come a long way.
For the first time, two young Canadian talents made the trip overseas to represent Team Canada. Scott Hargrove from Surrey, BC and Zacharie Robichon of Ottawa ON both made very good impressions and represented Team Canada superbly.
Final Junior class event for Quebec driver
2011 Canadian National Rotax Max Junior Champion, and Team Canada driver Jesse Lazare didn’t get the final result he was looking for at the recent Rotax Max World Finals in Dubai. The 14-year-old from Dollard des Ormeaux proved his speed by qualifying 3rd overall, and won a heat race, but it all came undone in the pre-final.

Eastern Canadian Karting Championship drivers are back in action tomorrow as six will be on hand at the Hinchtown.com Canadian Karting Shootout. Of the eight drivers invited to the 3rd Annual event at the Mosport Driver Development track, Zach Robichon, Tyler McEwan, Steven Szigeti, Luke Chudleigh, Cameron Morrison and Olivier Bedard each completed full ECKC schedules in 2011, and they equally represent the ‘Team Canada’ classes of the series coming from DD2, Senior and Junior respectively.
Podium in Euro Challenge and Pan Am win latest for Lazare
Reigning 2011 Canadian National Rotax Max Junior Champion, and Team Canada driver Jesse Lazare shows no sign of slowing down after being crowned Canadian Champion. The 14-year-old recently was on the podium in France at the Rotax Euro Challenge – the first Canadian to ever be on a podium in the Euro Challenge – and last weekend added the title of Pan Am Rotax Junior Champion with a solid win at New Castle, Indiana.
Team Canada Scholarship to the festival announces finalists!
With the half-way point of the season now past, the selections have been made, and it was clear that Canada has a great number of young up and coming drivers who could all represent our country well! The 3 finalists will be gathering for an intensive interview process on August 29th, and shortly thereafter, one driver will be selected to be the very first winner of the annual Scholarship. The interviews will take place at Mosport International Raceway, the world renowned track known for producing some of this country’s greatest drivers.

The 2011 Eastern Canadian Karting Championship will reach its halfway point this weekend as teams and drivers converge on PSL Karting Trois-Rivières in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, for race number three of six. Rotax Max Challenge classes will once again be in the spotlight, as drivers in Senior, Junior, and DD2 continue bids to earn seats on Team Canada for the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals.
