Virgin Racing Formula E team announces its 2014 driver line up
Virgin announced today that Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari will join the Virgin Racing Formula E Team to drive for the 2014 Formula E Championship season. The competitive line up reflects Virgin’s desire to create a winning team in the first season of Formula E.
The team currently known as Virgin has moved to allay the fears of sponsors who worry Sir Richard Branson is pulling out of formula one.
Next year, the team will revert to the chassis name of its Russian supercar partner Marussia, after two seasons as Virgin Racing and regular circuit appearances by the famous brand’s figurehead Branson.

The unofficial news emerging from the F1 Commission on Thursday was the approval of team name changes and the 2012 calendar. The sources, however, were much quieter about the big-ticket discussion — the speculated liberalisation of the Concorde Agreement to allow the purchase and sale of full ‘customer cars’ between competing teams.

“It’s a pity for Timo Glock, who is a good man who deserves a good team” – Lauda
Timo Glock has admitted “it would be nice” if Sir Richard Branson ploughed some more money into the team that bares his famous company’s name. F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone has been a critic of Virgin Racing following its difficult debut in 2010, denouncing it recently as “a nickel and dime operation”.

71-year-old Slim, the Mexican telecoms magnate who is backing the Swiss team and its rookie Sergio Perez this year through his company Telmex and its subsidiaries, grew his fortune over the past year by more than $20 billion to $74bn, the magazine said.
Jean Todt and Sir Richard Branson are two high profile targets of Bernie Ecclestone’s ire in a new book about him
According to the Daily Telegraph leading journalists this week are poring over review copies of No Angel, The Secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone. Telegraph correspondent Tom Cary is apparently one of the first to finish the book, revealing Virgin’s Branson and FIA president Todt as two of the sport’s figures criticised by Ecclestone, the F1 chief executive.
Branson leaves Abu Dhabi with AirAsia uniform
While Lotus Racing’s attention now turns to the young driver and tyre tests in Abu Dhabi, the team, AirAsia and their counterparts at Virgin Racing are busy preparing for Richard Branson’s inaugural flight as an AirAsia stewardess. In the midst of the celebrations on track last night Team Principal Tony Fernandes gave Richard an AirAsia uniform and pinned an AirAsia stewardess’ badge on the Virgin Racing boss and the two agreed how the bet would be settled.
