The World Series by Renault makes its return to the Nürburgring this weekend.
Absent from the calendar last year, the German circuit will host the fourth meeting of the 2014 season. The on and off-track programmes will be very busy with the Eurocup Clio returning to action alongside the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. In addition, Carlos Sainz will put in a demonstration run in an F1 car. Red Bull factory driver, Sébastien Buemi will star in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Show in front of the German fans.
FIA Formula E championship
Renault, a pioneer in the world of electric vehicles and an active participant in motorsport ever since the brand was founded, was named last year as an official technical partner of the FIA Formula E Championship. With the competition’s inaugural race in Beijing, China, in September, 2014, looming fast, the French carmaker has announced that is to step up its involvement in the new series in the form of backing for e.dams.
Team boss Franz Tost insists 2014 is not Jean-Eric Vergne’s last chance to shine for Toro Rosso.
At the beginning of the year, amid rumours Mark Webber would retire, it was said that either Vergne or his teammate Daniel Ricciardo will step up to Red Bull for 2014, while the other is dropped from the energy drink company’s driver development programme.
Sebastien Buemi has admitted his career will probably stay on its current course in 2014.
Daniel Ricciardo has been signed by Red Bull’s champion team for at least three years, and the other energy drink-owned F1 squad, Toro Rosso, looks likely to field Jean-Eric Vergne alongside rookie Antonio Felix da Costa next season.
Sebastien Buemi has admitted a sports car programme in 2013 is some compensation for having to watch every grand prix from the reserve bench.
“Yes, it’s terrible,” the Swiss said, when after being retained as Red Bull’s official reserve driver for 2013 was asked if sitting on the sidelines is difficult. “Real torture!” Buemi, 24, said as he recalled last year, the first season after being dropped by Red Bull’s junior team Toro Rosso.
