The eni FIM Superbike World Championship had its first ever pre-event today at the Intercity Istanbul Park, as a selection of Superbike and Supersport riders – joined by representatives of the Circuit Board – took to the SBK Paddock Show stage for a press conference to introduce the maiden round of the series on Turkish soil.

Tissot-Superpole has almost become the personal property of Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) in 2012 and in Portimao he recorded his eighth win in this competition, which allocates final grid positions for the top 16 qualifiers. His most recent Superpole success before today was at Brno, in July. Tom now has ten career pole positions to his credit, the same as SBK legend Pierfrancesco Chili, placing him equal eighth in the all time rankings.

The 2012 eni FIM Superbike World Championship enters into a crucial phase this weekend as the title battle is virtually whittled down to three names on the eve of the penultimate round at the Autodromo Internacional Algarve circuit at Portimao. Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri, two of the most famous riders in world motorcycle racing, will be fighting it out on Sunday together with the revelation of the year, the 26-year-old Tom Sykes from the UK.
Eni, the multi-national integrated energy company becomes Title Sponsor as well as Official Supplier
This was announced by eni and Infront Motor Sports today at a press conference in Imola. The first SBK round in Europe marks the start of this partnership, which complements eni’s previous role of technical partner alongside teams, riders and manufacturers. As a consultant to eni, the ISA International Sports Agency brokered the agreement with Infront Sports & Media, the parent company of WorldSBK promoter Infront Motor Sports.
Once again a two-day pre-race test session will take place shortly before round one at Phillip Island in February
With the new winter testing ban about to come into force (only for Superbike teams) on the first day of December and running until January 15th, the official testing dates for Superbike and Supersport teams for the 2012 season have now been announced.
Ever since his first sessions in the official IMS tests at Phillip Island earlier this week Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) made himself a force to be reckoned with in front of 63,200 spectators at Phillip Island. On the opening day of the new season the Superpole winner made himself a convincing double race winner.

Infront Sports & Media has set a new rights agreement with China’s biggest regional television station
Guangdong TVis to broadcast FIM Superbike World Championship delayed highlights coverage across the country. The agreement started with coverage from the Kyalami, South Africa round held on 16 May and will include all the remaining rounds of the 2010 season.
