He beat team-mate René Binder by 180 thousands of a second, while Pietro Fittipaldi (Fortec Motorsports) was the quickest rookie of the day in sixth.

Matthieu Vaxiviere (Lotus) has scored his third success this year in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

Starting from pole, the Lotus F1 Team Junior protégé conserved the lead to win race 2 on the day, ahead of Racing Steps Foundation driver Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsports) and rookie Roy Nissany (Tech 1 Racing), who strode on to the podium for the first time in the category.
