Briton quickest on Day 3 in opening session
Jordan King set the fastest laptime in today’s morning session on the last day of post-season testing at Yas Marina Circuit. With a laptime of 1:49.880, the MP Motorsport driver lapped 0.523s quicker than Racing Engineering’s Louis Delétraz. Johnny Cecotto (Rapax) completed the top three.
Trident driver quickest in opening post-season test day
Raffaele Marciello set the best laptime in today’s post-season test session at the Yas Marina Circuit. The Italian lapped the track in a 1:49.937 at the wheel of a Trident car during the afternoon session ahead of Nobuharu Matsushita (ART Grand Prix) and Oliver Rowland (DAMS).
November 30th to December 2nd
Three days after the 2016 GP2 season ends all the teams will be back in action in Abu Dhabi for the annual post-season test that starts on Wednesday, 30th November and finishes at the end of Friday, 2nd December. We are pleased to reveal that the two drivers who will be running in the Racing Engineering GP2 cars for this three-day test are Switzerland’s Louis Delétraz and Sweden’s Gustav Malja.

Alex Lynn dominated this afternoon’s Sprint Race in Abu Dhabi, claiming the final win of the 2016 season with an experienced, rapid run from lights to flag ahead of Johnny Cecotto and Sergey Sirotkin, while further back Antonio Giovinazzi could manage no better that P6, handing the title to teammate Pierre Gasly.
Frenchman retakes title lead with emphatic win
Pierre Gasly laid down a marker in the fight for the 2016 drivers’ standings with an assertive fourth win of the season in this evening’s Feature Race in Abu Dhabi: a great start and superb drive saw the Frenchman make the chequered flag almost 7 seconds ahead of Nobuharu Matsushita and Artem Markelov.
Frenchman uses alternate strategy for final pole
Pierre Gasly strategised his way to possibly his most important pole position, holding his nerve and staying put in the pitlane while every other driver stormed onto the Abu Dhabi circuit when the track ran green before finally emerging as his rivals were returning, giving himself a clear track to drag home a dominant fifth pole position of the season ahead of Sergey Sirotkin and Artem Markelov, with his title rival and teammate Antonio Giovinazzi having to make do with 6th position.

2015 GP3 Series vice champion Luca Ghiotto has grabbed his first GP2 win today at Sepang International Circuit: the Italian ace drove a mature race and survived pressure from Raffaele Marciello in the closing stages to cross the finish line ahead of his countryman. In third, Pierre Gasly reduced the gap to teammate Antonio Giovinazzi in the Drivers’ standings.

PREMA Racing driver Antonio Giovinazzi resumed his impressive form at Sepang International Circuit: the Italian denied Sergey Sirotkin on the final lap of an action-packed Feature Race to score a fifth win his Series debut season. Behind the pair, Norman Nato completed the podium from seventh on the grid.
Frenchman tops red-flagged Qualifying session
The Red Bull protégé claimed his fourth GP2 pole of the season in today’s dramatic Qualifying session at Sepang International Circuit. Pierre Gasly clocked a laptime of 1:42.181 on his first flying lap and on his first stint. He denied teammate Antonio Giovinazzi by 0.082s in what is PREMA Racing’s third front row lock out. Raffaele Marciello completed the top three.

The penultimate round of the 2016 GP2 season kicked off in the best possible way for Series leader Pierre Gasly: the Red Bull protégé set the fastest laptime of the Free Practice session this afternoon at Sepang International Circuit with a laptime of 1:42.352. Antonio Giovinazzi and Raffaele Marciello completed the top three.
GP2 Series Sepang, Malaysia preview
The GP2 action resumes this weekend at Sepang International Circuit for the penultimate round of the 2016 season. The event will open on Thursday with the free practice session; qualifying will take place on Friday, whilst the Feature and Sprint races will happen on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Italian takes fourth GP2 victory at home
Antonio Giovinazzi delighted his home fans after passing countryman Raffaele Marciello on the final lap to win this afternoon’s Feature Race at Monza, taking the top spot from the back of the grid by making the right tyre call and gaining an advantage from a safety car mishap to lead home an Italian 1-2 ahead of Gustav Malja.
