Fifth place for no36 Signatech Alpine secures the 2014 European Le Mans Series driver and team titles
The final round of the 2014 European Le Mans Series, the 4 Hours of Estoril, has been won by the No.24 ORECA 03R of Sébastien Loeb Racing, Vincent Capillaire and endurance debutant Jimmy Eriksson giving the team its first win in the Championship and the series its fifth different winner from five races.
Tamas Pal Kiss, driving for Virtuosi UK, cruised to a flag-to-flag win today at Estoril, in Race 1 of the Auto GP 2014 finale.
The Hungarian racer, who had also scored two points yesterday by taking the pole, mathematically clinched second place in standings. In addition to that, Virtuosi UK was able to reduce its gap from Super Nova in the team’s standings to just 7 points also thanks to a 5th place by Andrea Roda.
Tamas Pal Kiss scored the fastest lap of the day at Estoril in qualifying for the final round of the 2014 Auto GP championship.
The Hungarian racer, fielded by Virtuosi UK, logged a personal best laptime of 1’28″759 to take his maiden pole position, which was also the first for the British squad. Thanks to today’s results they were able to tally one more point in their chase for the teams’ championship.
The final round of the AutoGP weekend at Estoril started with a great laptime by Tamas Pal Kiss (Virtuosi UK).
The Hungarian stopped the clocks in 1:42.601, edging the SuperNova duo of Markus Pommer and Vittorio Ghirelli by 0.7s. The Zele Racing stable followed in fourth and fifth: returning former F1 star Antonio Pizzonia was able to top his rookie team-mate, Angolan Luis Sa Silva.
ELMS Estoril provisional entry list
Competitors of the European Le Mans Series paddock are getting ready for the fifth and final race of the 2014 season, a race which will see no fewer than 37 cars on the starting grid at Estoril. A new venue for the ELMS this year, Portugal is preparing to host the series’ finale and there are a great number of teams on the entry list.
