Shell fuels the innovation behind 2015 Le Mans achievements

Porsche’s historic 17th victory at the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours saw a landmark in the development of sports-prototype racing.

The 2.0 litre V4 turbocharged internal combustion engine fitted to the Porsche 919 Hybrid, allied to an 8 megajoule hybrid energy system, was the smallest to have triumphed at the fabled Circuit de la Sarthe for 37 years.

Le Mans 24 hours: Porsche seals historic victory at Le Mans, taking convincing 1-2

Nico Hülkenberg became the first driver to win the race overall at his first attempt since Laurent Aiello in 1998

Le Mans 24 hours: Porsche and Audi battle it out for first six hours at Le Mans

The incident packed first 6-hours saw drama and excitement at every turn of the 14km Le Mans track. 

2015-06-14-The Race-19As the race distance reached twenty-five percent the no7 Audi R18 of Benoit Treluyer overtook the no17 Porsche 919 hybrid of Mark Webber to take the lead just before the Frenchman dived into the pits.  The no17 Porsche had taken the lead on the opening lap of the race.  The lead changed hands three times in the last 30 minutes of the sixth hour.

Le Mans 24 hours: Jan Magnussen leaves medical care

The driver from Corvette Racing – GM was victim of a violent track exit during the first part of the timed session.

The Danish driver lost control of his Corvette C7R n°63 in the Porsche corners, violently hitting the protection rail, obliging race control to get the red flag out.

Le Mans 24 hours: Porsche throws down the gauntlet in first qualifying session

The no18 Porsche of Neel Jani posted the fastest qualifying lap of the current configuration of the Le Mans circuit

2015-06-14-Tuesday-1The Swiss driver crossed the start finish line after just 3m16.887 to complete a lap of the 14km circuit in the first qualifying session, smashing the previous qualifying lap record of 3m18.513 set by Stéphane Sarrazin in a Peugeot 908 HDI-FAP.
