The first titles at Paul Ricard?
The Castellet weekend promises a unique spectacle with title battles in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Eurocup Clio.
French prime minister Francois Fillon will on Friday travel to the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet.
According to Le Parisien newspaper in an exclusive report, he could announce the deal is finally done to revive the French grand prix for 2013. A source said Fillon will provide an update and indicate that France is “ready” to host F1 again for the first time since 2008 at Magny Cours.
Formula one needs to accept the steady move away from its traditional European homeland.
That is the claim of Spanish test driver Pedro de la Rosa, whose employer McLaren is based in the UK close to seven other formula one teams. The other four teams are based elsewhere in Europe but, next year for example, no fewer than 12 of the 20 scheduled races will take place on other continents.
Maria de Villota has admitted Bernie Ecclestone is in “direct contact” with her manager.
The 31-year-old Spanish woman tested a 2009 Renault at F1 chief executive Ecclestone’s Paul Ricard circuit earlier this month. Marca sports newspaper asked de Villota if Briton Ecclestone – who admits he would like to feature a female on the formula one grid – is involved in her career.
A female driver conducted a secret formula one test with Renault two weeks ago, according to international publications.
