Circuit of The Americas (COTA) today welcomed veteran MotoGP rider and native Texan Colin Edwards and Moto2 newcomer Josh Herrin for some chilly track laps and a question-and-answer session with journalists in advance of their 2014 season. Edwards and Herrin are two of only three U.S. riders competing in the two series this year.
Mark Webber has called on F1’s governing body to step up its drug testing, after a motorcycle racer was banned.
Fellow Australian Anthony West, who races in the second-tier Moto2 category, was on Thursday banned for a month after testing positive for the stimulant Methylhexaneamine, the AAP news agency reports. Red Bull driver Webber welcomed motorcycling’s push to ensure the sport is drug-free, and called on the FIA to follow suit, in order to ensure “clarity”.

The event has not been run since 2008, when the now 35-year-old badly broke his leg on a mountain biking descent. It has returned for 2011, but the local Mercury newspaper reports: “Webber was grounded (on Wednesday) by a climb deemed too dangerous for the formula one star to tackle”.
Red Bull has banned Sebastian Vettel from taking part in a demonstration ‘swap’ with fellow German and new Moto2 champion Stefan Bradl.
“I would gladly try a formula one single seater,” 22-year-old rider Bradl is quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, “and Sebastian could get on my bike. “Yes, the change would be harder for him than for me.”
The Aspar Team is expanding their MotoGP effort next season to two bikes
Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaró piloting the Aprilia powered CRT machines.The Aspar Team has joined the list of teams to compete the 2012 season with CRT (Claiming Rules Team) bikes. In addition, the team will have two riders, Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaró.

There is a chance bad weather will affect the forthcoming 15 scheduled days of pre-season formula one testing. Europe is in the grip of an extreme winter, which is affecting even the usually more temperate Spain, where heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures are being recorded.
