Formula Race Promotions today announced its 2015 calendar for the Atlantic, F2000 and F1600 Championship Series.
Seven points-paying race weekends are scheduled for teams and drivers, in addition to a new pre-season exhibition weekend in Florida. The big news is the expansion of the Atlantic Championship Series to a 14-race/seven-weekend format, while the F1600 Formula F Championship Series will grow to a 21-race/seven-weekend schedule.
Finishing second, setting fast lap and re-taking the points lead was Garth Rickards
Evan Mehan won a race that saw a lead pack of 11 cars trade the lead back and forth until the Chastain Motorsports driver was able to separate himself from the group to take his second victory of the 2014 F1600 Formula F Championship Series at Watkins Glen International.
In other big news, Minor received a penalty during practice that will impact his qualifying position for race one on Saturday.
With the Championship in his sights, 18-year-old Georgia native Skylar Robinson ran under the existing F2000 Championship Series track record (set in 2011) in free practice ahead of the Championship-deciding rounds 13 and 14 this weekend at Watkins Glen International, with a slim margin over his rival Tim Minor.
It will get more interesting on Saturday
As if the Championship battle couldn’t get any tighter, Ayla Agren paced Friday practice at Watkins Glen by .024 seconds over her main rival, Garth Rickards. The two are nearly neck and neck for the 2014 F1600 Formula F Championship Series crown, which will be settled over rounds 13 and 14 this weekend at Watkins Glen International.
Familiarity will close the F2000 Championship Series season with a riveting Championship battle – the closest since 2010
Watkins Glen plays to F2000 season finale
After visits to two new-to-F2000 race tracks in Pittsburgh and Thompson, the open wheel contingent now returns to the full course at Watkins Glen for rounds 13 and 14 to close out the year and decide whether Tim Minor or Skylar Robinson will be the 2014 Champion.
Round 14 of the 2014 Championship
Ayla Agren comes into the final two rounds of the 2014 F1600 Formula F Championship season with a razor-thin points lead ahead of teammate Garth Rickards. Whoever conquers the Championship’s second trip of the year to the Glen will be crowned the 2014 F1600 Champion after a season that’s seen 10 winners in 12 races.
