Ecclestone agrees lower fee for 2016 Korea GP extension

Bernie Ecclestone agreed to reduce the race fee as he extended Korea’s grand prix contract through 2016, the AFP news agency reports.

2012-06-07_0277F1′s annual trip since 2010 to Mokpo is among the most controversial and least popular on the calendar, but promoter Park Won-Hwa said on Friday a new contract has been signed. “We had to renegotiate with Mr Ecclestone and brought a few ideas and persuaded him that Korea cannot continue the event with such a big financial loss,” he said. Korea among least-popular races on F1 calendar

Korea, among F1′s new breed of grands prix, is far from the most popular stop on the sport’s annual calendar.

Dan WheldonDan Wheldon 1978-2011IndyCar Driver Dan Wheldon died in Las Vegas Sunday after his car crashed during a massive 15-car accident during the Las Vegas Indy 300. Wheldon’s car went airborne after hitting another car during Lap 12, then apparently caught part of the catch fence just outside of Turn 2.

Little changed after Korea’s calamitous debut

Little has changed at Korea’s Yeongam circuit since the calamitous inaugural grand prix a year ago.
