F1 Circuit Architect, Hermann Tilke, Speaks Exclusively to Baku City Circuit
Hermann Tilke is a name well known to most Formula 1 fans across the world. This would have much to do with the fact that he has been responsible for designing the majority of Formula 1’s ‘new’ circuits, including the likes of the Yas Marina Circuit (Abu Dhabi), Marina Bay Street Circuit (Singapore), Bahrain International Circuit and Circuit of The Americas (Austin).
The particularly slippery conditions suffered by drivers at the new Circuit of the Americas this weekend is caused by oil, not dust.
Alex Wurz had a hand in the layout of the new Circuit of the Americas, which has lauded by formula one drivers this weekend.
Wurz, now 38 and a sports car driver, contested 69 grands prix between 1997 and 2007, finishing on the podium three times. The Austrian now works as a ‘driver coach’ at Williams, serving alongside his friend and countryman Toto Wolff, the British team’s new shareholder and director.
Korea, among F1’s new breed of grands prix, is far from the most popular stop on the sport’s annual calendar.
Well-known British F1 photographer Darren Heath tweeted from the metropolis Seoul: “Fantastic 3 days. Early train to Mokpo tomorrow. “(It’s) like being in London then heading to Shetland for an F1 GP. Mad,” he concluded.
