Josef Newgarden described joining Team Penske as being the “American dream.”
The greatest team in Indy car racing history officially announced that Newgarden, the 25-year-old from Tennessee, would replace Juan Pablo Montoya in the No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet in 2017. Team president Tim Cindric also confirmed three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves would return next season to fill out the team’s four-car roster.

It was never a certainty for Team Penske’s Will Power, but speed, strategy and a nail-biting one-lap dash at the Honda Indy Toronto culminated in the Australian scoring his third win of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season – all in the past four races – and climbing one step higher on the all-time win list.
Missing the most of the early session didn’t affect Helio Castroneves too much
The three-time Indianapolis 500 winner made up for lost time by setting the fastest lap in the final three-hour session of the Verizon IndyCar Series Test in the West, a two-day promoter test at Phoenix International Raceway.
The Test in the West is already bringing out the best in Team Penske. Record best.
Helio Castroneves led four Team Penske drivers in the top six after the first session of the Phoenix International Raceway promoter test Feb. 26, with a lap time that unofficially eclipsed the track record on the 1.022-mile short oval.
Six Verizon IndyCar Series drivers will participate in on-track testing Aug. 12 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The 9 a.m.-5 p.m. ET session will incorporate a Firestone tire test to be conducted with Marco Andretti in the No. 27 Andretti Autosport Honda and three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves in the No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet, along with four drivers participating in team testing on the 2.5-mile oval.
