The GP3 Series returns to action this week for Round 2 of the 2016 season in Spielberg, Austria. This marks a frenetic period in the Series with four races in five weekends. Following a break after Round 1, the GP3 teams and drivers tested at the Red Bull Ring track, giving them a great opportunity to perfect their set-up ahead of their visit to the Austrian circuit.
Eighteen-Year old to drive VF-16 in FP1 at Silverstone and Four other venues
Charles Leclerc, a 2016 member of the Ferrari Driver Academy who is currently competing in the GP3 Series for ART Grand Prix, will get his first taste of a Formula One car when he drives the VF-16 for Haas F1 Team on July 8 during the first practice session (FP1) for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
ART Grand Prix’s Charles Leclerc ends on top at the Red Bull Ring GP3 test
ART Grand Prix’s and Scuderia Ferrari Team Development driver Charles Leclerc clocked the best laptime again on day two of GP3 testing at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. His time of 1:19.437 was 0.012s quicker than Trident’s Antonio Fuoco which was set in the morning session. Campos Racing’s Steijn Schothorst posted the fastest time in the afternoon in a 1:20.671, a mere 0.037s ahead of Arden International’s Jack Aitken.
ART Grand Prix’s Charles Leclerc quickest at the Red Bull Ring
ART Grand Prix’s and Scuderia Ferrari Team Development driver Charles Leclerc recorded the best laptime on day one at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria today. His time of 1:19.171 – set in the morning session – was over half a second quicker than his teammate Nyck de Vries in second. Trident and Ferrari Driver Academy’s Antonio Fuoco posted the fastest laptime in the afternoon session, just ahead of Leclerc.
Mathias Lauda worked his way up to a DTM cockpit at top speed
Only in 2002, at the age of 20, the son of three-time Formula One World Champion Niki Lauda made his first steps in the car-racing world. Four years later, following successes in the Formula Nissan, Formula 3000 and the GP2 Series, he advanced to DTM.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosts final pre-season test ahead of 2016 season
Campos Racing is ready to kick off final preseason test in GP3 Series, which is held at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 20-21 April. The home of the Spanish F.1 Grand Prix will host the curtain-raiser event next May and therefore this test will be of vital importance.
