Carlin’s Alex Lynn claims GP3 victory in Belgium
Series leader and Red Bull Junior Team driver Alex Lynn faced one of his biggest challenges of the season today, resisting the determined efforts of Status Grand Prix’s Richie Stanaway until the chequered flag in an epic battle. The Brit was victorious, extending his advantage in the Series, with his nearest title rival Stanaway second. ART Grand Prix’s Alex Fontana was third.
Marussia Manor Racing’s Dean Stoneman victorious in action-packed Race 1
A stunning drive from Dean Stoneman saw him secure his second win of the 2014 GP3 Series season after qualifying from P11 on the grid. A race of strategy saw drivers switching from wet to slicks before the lights went out, but it was Brit’ Stoneman who handled the pressure to drive a mature race to be triumphant in Belgium. ART Grand Prix’s Dino Zamparelli and Status Grand Prix’s Nick Yelloly completed the podium.
Rain had fallen overnight and again prior to the thirty minute qualifying session. The 26 drivers fed onto the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on wet Pirelli tyres for Round 6 of the 2014 GP3 Series. Carmen Jorda was an early victim to the conditions; the Spaniard ran wide at Turn 14 and was beached in the gravel, a premature end to her session.
The summer break is officially over and the Series is ready to rock and roll for the final four events of the 2014 GP3 season. This weekend the GP3 paddock sets up camp at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, a true racer’s circuit that wets both the drivers’ and fans’ appetite with challenging high-speed corners that providing thrilling racing.
Niederhauser dominates Budapest GP3 Race 2
He’s back! The smile could not have been bigger for Swiss ace Patric Niederhauser who climbed to the top step of the podium today at the Hungaroring. The Arden International ace made a fantastic start to steal the lead and claimed his third win of his GP3 career, his first rostrum of the 2014 season. ART Grand Prix’s Dino Zamparelli was second, with Niederhauser’s teammate Jann Mardenborough third.
Frenchman on top in topsy turvy feature race
Arthur Pic has claimed his maiden GP2 win with a remarkable drive in difficult conditions, keeping cool as two safety car periods threw everyone’s strategies out the window and pushing when needed to pick up the victory in today’s feature race in Budapest ahead of Stefano Coletti and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs.
It’s as if we’ve never been away!
Following Round 4 last week in Germany, the Series have travelled the short journey across to Budapest in Hungary for Round 5 of the 2014 campaign. This is the only back-to-back event on the calendar which is always an extra challenging time for the paddock with limited time to prepare.
