Briton Gary Paffett managed to set the fastest time in the 20 minutes’ qualifying session. On his fastest lap, he posted a time of 1 min. 41.443 sec. For Gary Paffett, this is the twelfth pole position of his DTM career and the first of this season. Alongside him on the front row of the grid, Robert Wickens will be lining up in second place.

The Briton is pone of the best-known faces of the series and is about to start into his 13th DTM season. In 2005, at the age of 24, Paffett secured his first and only DTM title, to date. In his DTM years, the 35-year old experienced ups and downs galore and consequently, he can hark back to a huge wealth of experience.
That’s one of the reasons why the two DTM aces were offered test-driver jobs at the pinnacle of motor racing. Scotland’s Di Resta will replace German Adrian Sutil at the Williams F1 Team and Paffett already has been working for them as simulator driver since February. Nonetheless, DTM represents the top priority for the two Britons.
Mercedes-Benz motor racing family get new 2016 season under way at media event on Friday
Stuttgart: The curtain is going up on the 2016 motor racing season. The brand with the three-pointed star officially opened the new motor racing year at a special media event in the “Hallowed Halls” in Fellbach near Stuttgart. Formula One and DTM drivers and their management teams looked ahead to the tasks that face them this year against the backdrop of treasures from the successful motor racing heritage at Mercedes-Benz.

After BMW and Audi, now, Mercedes-Benz has also announced the formation of its teams for the upcoming season. In the process, the brand from Stuttgart is following the same approach as its Munich-based rivals and even stepped up another level in terms of rotation.

Lucas Auer, Paul Di Resta, Maximilian Götz, Daniel Juncadella, Robert Wickens, Gary Paffett and Christian Vietoris will be racing for the Stuttgart-based brand in the DTM, like last year.
