CTCC season opening events…
Entered in this past weekend’s first two races of the Canadian Touring Car Championship’s 2016 season, the Audette Racing Team experienced a weekend of highs and lows in Ontario but Mathieu Audette earned himself a podium in one of the two races, rewarding the team’s hard work.
A remarkable performance but a result best forgotten
Starting last after missing qualification of the Clarington 200 in the NASCAR Pinty’s series, the driver of the 74 Bumper to Bumper / Total made the comeback of the day at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park before being forced to retire on lap 31.

Alex Labbé came to the Clarington 200 with new sponsors, a stronger than ever Go Fas Racing car, and high expectation for this race and the 2016 driver title. After qualifying on pole, Labbé led the race from the start and on several other occasions later on in the race. A last-lap rain shower mixed with some oil on his windshield, reducing his visibility and causing him to drop from second to 5th at the end.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin has used strategy throughout the weekend to compensate for the mechanical problem of the braking system. Even though the multiple pit stops have relegated the car to the tail end of the pack, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin showed up in the top-5 at the end of the race.

Alex Tagliani’s Sunday afternoon ride on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Speedway oval track was cut short during his qualifying attempt for the 100th running of the Indy 500 on May 29. The Canadian driver secured a spot on the starting grid on Saturday, but the second day of qualifying was to determine his starting position for the epic race.

Patrick Dussault made an impressive debut in the NASCAR Pinty’s series, this weekend, during the season opener at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The rookie driver was about to score a top-10, but an aggressive driver ruined his chance and spun him in the very last turn of the race.
