Starrantino wins with last lap pass at VIR

Starrantino passed Jake Eidson on the back straight on the last lap to take the win by three tenths. Steve Bamford finished third.

Adrian Starrantino started from pole but traded the lead back and forth countless times with multiple cars to eventually win in the No. 98 Mygale/Honda for Bryan Herta Autosport in the opening round of F1600 Formula F Championship Series season in a dramatic race.

Newey won the race but Koykka took the 2012 title.

F1600 F Championship logoBrandon Newey won the race, but Matias Koykka brought home enough points to edge the American and take the 2012 F1600 Formula F Championship Series title with a strong effort to close the season from pole at Watkins Glen International. Newey edged Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/Agajanian teammate Adrian Starrantino to the victory ahead of the two Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing Spectrum/Hondas. Koykka wins at Watkins Glen, one race left to decide title

Matias Koykka took his fourth win of the year and inched closer to the 2012 title

F1600 F Championship logoMatias Koykka bounced back from his fourth place starting position to take his fourth win of the 2012 F1600 Formula F Championship Series at Watkins Glen for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. The Spectrum/Honda driver from Finland thus pulls out a 20 point lead (with drops calculated, per Series rules) over Brandon Newey, who finished second, ahead of Koykka’s teammate Neil Alberico, setting up a Championship showdown in the season finale scheduled for Sunday. Koykka fastest in last practice sessions of the season

F1600 F Championship logoChampionship contender Matias Koykka paced both practice sessions ahead of the doubleheader season finale at Watkins Glen for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. However, his main rival, American Brandon Newey, was second quick in the last session by just a couple thousandths of second in the Mygale/Honda for Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/Agajanian.

Newey comes back to win in wet at Summit Point

Newey leads in the wet

Brandon Newey recovered from an early race off at Summit Point to put in a comeback drive on a drying race track, racing down the leaders and then inheriting the lead when Jeremy Grenier spun to take his third win of the 2012 F1600 Formula F Championship Series season for Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/Agajanian in the No. 98 Mygale/Honda. Grenier finished second ahead of Matias Koykka, who won on Saturday. More importantly, the victory delivers the Championship lead back to Newey.

Koykka wins wild Summit Point race on last lap

Koykka benefitted from last lap drama to take the win

The F1600 Formula F Championship Series produced another thrilling, shoot-out of a race at Summit Point with the top four cars trading the lead back and forth throughout the 20-lap event. Finnish driver Matias Koykka came out on top, inheriting the lead and first place in the points standings when the leaders made contact on the last lap in his Spectrum/Honda for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.

Newey to F1600 pole at Summit Point

Brandon Newey grabbed the F1600 Formula F Championship Series pole at Summit Point Motorsports Park by just two thousandths of a second over his Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/ Agajanian teammate of Garett Grist. Newey, the Championship leader, extends his points margin over Matias Koykka from eight to 11 with three bonus points for pole in his Mygale/Honda. Shae Davies, who has won three of the last four races, followed in third position.

Thompson Scores First Win in Mid-Ohio Shootout

Thompson scored his first win

After 18 laps of five cars trading the top five spots back and forth, Colin Thompson vaulted from fourth to first with two laps to go, scoring his first career F1600 Formula F Championship Series win at Mid-Ohio. Better yet, the hotly-contested top five battle featured three different chassis and five aspiring drivers, the oldest of which was 22. Teammates Matias Koykka and Shae Davies completed the podium.

After two F1600 Formula F Championship Series practice sessions at Mid-Ohio, it was the Spectrum/Honda Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing duo of Matias Koykka and Shae Davies at the top of the time sheets in a fast morning session. In a slower afternoon session, however, it was Championship leader Brandon Newey on top for Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/ Agajanian in the Mygale/Honda.

At the end of a scorching day in New Jersey with temperatures flirting with the triple digits, Australia’s Shae Davies led the final F1600 Formula F Championship Series practice session at New Jersey Motorsport Park’s Thunderbolt course with a lap of 1:22.122. Davies, in his first F1600 Series start, is contesting rounds five and six of the 2012 season in the No. 9 Spectrum/Honda for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.

Mid-Point of 2012 Coming at New Jersey

Brandon Newey has won two out of four races so far in 2012

The F1600 Formula F Championship Series will hit its mid-point of the 12-race 2012 season at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend, with rounds five and six. Twenty three cars appear on the initial entry for the Thunderbolt circuit, with Brandon Newey driving for Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/Agajanian solidly in charge of the point standings with two wins in four races.

F1600 Rules Adjustment for European Chassis
