The Auto GP championship celebrated an historic race 2 at Imola.
Italian female racer Michela Cerruti cruised to her maiden win in the Coloni-promoted series in a spectacular fashion. The 27-year-old from Milan scored the first open-wheel win for a female racer in the last 5 years, and the first with an high-power open-wheel car in the European modern era.
Markus Pommer (Super Nova) scored his third pole position of the year in qualifying for this weekend’s Auto GP round at Imola.
For the quick German it’s also the third straight pole as he edged returning Euronova racer Kimiya Sato by four tenths of a second. The Japanese has seen his points advantage go down a bit again as the pole handed two more points to his opponent.
Driving for Super Nova Racing, Markus Pommer captured his maiden Auto GP pole at the Hungaroring.
At the end of a rain-disrupted session, the German handed the Sears-owned operation their fourth straight pole in Budapest. From 2011, the honor went in succession to Luca Filippi, Adrian Quaife-Hobbs and Vittorio Ghirelli.
It’s been a positive return for Super Nova’s Vittorio Ghirelli in Auto GP
The Roman, who won the 2013 title, scored the fastest lap at the end of the second practice session as he stopped the clocks at 1’34”436, while Championship Leader Kimiya Sato (Euronova Racing) ended up 25 hundreds of a second adrift.
The calendar includes a total of 33 races in eight European countries at prestigious Formula 1
In the 2014 season, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship once again will be internationally available: live- and re-live coverage in 155 nations and regions, global highlight coverage and – for the first time – an own magazine, broadcast by Europe’s biggest sports channel, Eurosport.
The 12 rounds of the championship will be broadcast on RDS and RDS2
After finding a live event to call home in Canada with Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R), the new-for-2014 FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy (World RX) has found a spot in the French-language television packages of Canada with an agreement to have all 12 rounds of the championship season broadcast on the Réseau des sports (RDS) networks.
Round nine of 12 preview
There’s no rest in the FIA European Rally Championship. Less than a fortnight after title leader Jan Kopecký stormed to glory in the Czech Republic to signal the start of ERC Super September, there will be more serious competition ahead when Poland hosts round nine live on Eurosport.
International Jännerrallye (Austria), 3-5 January
New-look ERC set for opening-round winter thriller in Austria. The new-look FIA European Rally Championship is set for lift-off in Austria next month when the 30th running of the International Jännerrallye opens the 2013 ERC schedule from 3-5 January.
Eurosport has confirmed its programming for the International Jännerrallye, round one of the new-look 2013 FIA European Rally Championship.
As Turkey’s hopes fade, it looks increasingly possible that Austria will return to the F1 calendar in 2013.
This week, at Bernie Ecclestone’s request, the FIA reserved a date for an unidentified additional European race next year. Istanbul Park’s new operator Vural Ak then announced he had reached an agreement “in principle” with the F1 chief executive, pending the Turkish government’s support.
Next year’s FIA European Rally Championship will get off to a spectacular start if the stages of the Jännerrallye are anything to go by.
Bernie Ecclestone has admitted that if Coca-Cola enters formula one as a sponsor, it would do so with one of its ‘energy drink’ brands.
It was reported earlier this year that Coke, arguably the most recognised brand name on earth, could be eyeing F1. Sources had told the business journalist Christian Sylt that McLaren could ultimately win the deal, replacing the British team’s flagging title backer Vodafone. Asked about the rumours, Ecclestone told Eurosport: “The president of Coca-Cola is a very good friend of mine but the head of marketing has always said he didn’t think formula one was good for them.”
