Mercedes-Benz motor racing family get new 2016 season under way at media event on Friday
Stuttgart: The curtain is going up on the 2016 motor racing season. The brand with the three-pointed star officially opened the new motor racing year at a special media event in the “Hallowed Halls” in Fellbach near Stuttgart. Formula One and DTM drivers and their management teams looked ahead to the tasks that face them this year against the backdrop of treasures from the successful motor racing heritage at Mercedes-Benz.
The 24 drives in the DTM have been allocated
After Audi and BMW, Mercedes-Benz also has announced its drivers for the upcoming season and, just like the opposition, is counting on continuity. Lucas Auer, Paul Di Resta, Maximilian Götz, Daniel Juncadella, Robert Wickens, Gary Paffett and Christian Vietoris will be racing for the Stuttgart-based brand in the DTM, like last year.
The FIA Formula 3 European Championship will be represented by 23 drivers on the Macau GP grid
One of them is the new FIA Formula 3 European Champion, Felix Rosenqvist (SJM Theodore Racing by Prema Powerteam), who already won the 2014 edition of the prestigious event. The most important Formula 3 race in the world will be contested on 22nd November in the former Portuguese colony Macau, located a one-hour ferry trip from Hong Kong.
Marco Wittmann was the benchmark in DTM qualifying at Nürburgring
At the 3.629 kilometres long sprint circuit in the Eifel, the BMW driver topped the time sheets with 1:22.780 minutes. Behind the current DTM points’ leader, Audi drivers Edoardo Mortara, Mike Rockenfeller, Jamie Green, Timo Scheider and Miguel Molina follow in second to sixth place. The fastest Mercedes-Benz driver was Spaniard Daniel Juncadella in seventh place.
