What will 2012 bring?

F2000 Championship Series logoThe seventh F2000 Championship Series season, which starts April 12-15 at VIR, may be the most unpredictable one yet, with a full, one-class, 30-car plus field expected, and a chassis shuffle happening throughout the grid. 2011 Series Champion Remy Audette is off to sports cars, but the men who finished behind him in the points are all expected back, along with a contingent of young aspiring and proven rookies ready for more than four and a half hours of track time in Virginia. F2000 new logoThirty-three F2000 cars put in a few laps in a dry morning practice session before the skies opened at Watkins Glen International for the rest of the day. Championship leader Remy Audette was quickest in the dry, and will clinch the Championship tomorrow as the green flag drops for race one of the double header season finale weekend on Saturday.

Remy Audette will clinch the Championship when the green flag flies for race one on Saturday, but the race for wins, rookie of the year, and second in points will rage on among a 35-plus car grid as the leaves start to change in the Finger Lakes region of New York.

Livengood rebounds for Lime Rock win

F2000 new logoAfter losing valuable points in the Championship earlier in the day with a DNF at Lime Rock, Chris Livengood bounced back, winning for the second time this year. The sophomore F2000 driver did exactly what he needed to take the fight to the final rounds of the season at Watkins Glen – take points away from Remy Audette, who finished second ahead of Tim Paul.

Audette triumphs at Lime Rock

Audette survived turn one drama 

Remy Audette again narrowly avoided first turn melee and won his fifth race of the 2011 F2000 Championship Series season to jump out to an enormous points lead over Chris Livengood in round 11 of 14. Tim Minor followed in second, putting in the comeback drive of the year, and coming from dead last on the restart. Alegra Motorsports’ Angel Benitez notched his best result of 2011, completing the podium. Craig Clawson and Thomas Schwietz followed.

The Canadian has so far paced testing and practice throughout the weekend, but battled through a tough qualifying and messy race on Saturday to finish in fourth as he charged through the field in the rain. A badly timed and long black flag period created an interesting grid order, and as the track went green in the closing minutes, Connery suffered a massive crash in his #91 Van Diemen/Zetec. F2000: Livengood wins race, Carbone clinches 2010 title (+result & photos)

American rookie Chris Livengood got around pole-sitter and now 2010 F2000 Champion Victor Carbone on the opening lap and never looked back, taking his first F2000 victory by just under five seconds while Carbone brought home the 2010 F2000 Championship for Alegra Motorsports with a solid drive, holding on for fifth place.

Scarallo wins Epic Race at Road America (+results)

Jonathan Scarallo survived an epic drafting battle between four cars and then took the lead with two laps to go and gapped Daniel Erickson to take his first career F2000 victory in style for R-Sport at Road America. Jonathan Scarallo laid down a lap more than four-tenths clear of anyone else to take pole for the second F2000 race of the weekend at Road America, round 12 of the 2010 season. Scarallo appeared to be sending a message to the rest of the paddock in the #22 Van Diemen.

Erickson Sweeps Watkins Glen with second win

A wild start saw 30 cars get through turn one cleanly

Daniel Erickson took his second win of the season and second win in two days by just a car length in another exciting race at Watkins Glen in round eight of the F2000 Championship Series season. The Australian rookie, driving for Quantum Mechanics/Primus Racing, led from pole to take the checkered flag with a close-margin win over championship points leader Victor Carbone, who nearly got by Erickson in an epic battle in the closing laps, with 2007 F2000 title winner Cole Morgan rounding off the podium. Daniel Erickson notched his first F2000 win in his third ever start by getting around pole-sitter Chris Livengood midway through an all green race that saw 32 cars get through turn one without incident. Fellow rookie Livengood led from the drop of the green with Erickson holding station on his gearbox, halfway through the 14-lap lap race Erickson pounced, never looking back to take the win for Quantum Mechanics/Primus Racing. F2000 rookies Chris Livengood and Daniel Erickson each took a pole and three championship bonus points in a somewhat untraditional day for the F2000 Championship Series that saw double qualifying sessions run in succession for rounds seven and eight of the 2010 season at Watkins Glen with IndyCar.
