After contesting his 309th and final grand prix in Brazil late next month, Michael Schumacher will keep his ‘Silberpfeil’.
Bild am Sonntag newspaper said Mercedes will give the W03 ‘Silver Arrow’ to the great seven time world champion as a parting gift, before he makes room at the team for Lewis Hamilton in 2013. The German newspaper said the ‘step nose’ single seater is worth about EUR 1 million.

Mercedes’ 2012 car is good enough to be the basis of next year’s silver challenger, team boss Ross Brawn has revealed.
Although Nico Rosberg won April’s Chinese grand prix from pole, and Michael Schumacher set the fastest qualifying lap in Monaco, the W03 has otherwise delivered a mixed performance.

Nico Rosberg has admitted Mercedes’ is not the fastest car in 2012, but insists he is in the running for this year’s title.
The German won his first grand prix in more than a hundred attempts this year in China; a breakthrough also for Mercedes after a 55-year victory drought. 27-year-old Rosberg said recently that the W03 car is perhaps the fastest overall on the 2012 grid.

Whilst Nico Rosberg has finished every race so far in 2012 and is right in the hunt for the title, Michael Schumacher’s record features no fewer than five DNFs, leaving him with more points only than the six hapless drivers of the bottom-three teams.

2012 has been described as ‘topsy-turvy’ and a ‘lottery’ that has ended the domination of formula one’s usual greats.
But according to a detailed analysis by Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, F1′s old guard is still at the very top of the timesheets. The analysis shows that McLaren and Red Bull, respectively, have been the best teams overall when it comes to pace in the all-out ‘Q2′ qualifying segment, and the actual grands prix.

Nico Rosberg sounds very confident ahead of this weekend’s European grand prix on the streets of Valencia.
The breakthrough Shanghai winner, who also finished second recently at Monaco, is quoted by Germany’s Sport1 as insisting the Mercedes is “absolutely the fastest car” at present. At the same time, Pirelli’s Paul Hembery is reported as having tipped Rosberg’s teammate and Monaco polesitter Michael Schumacher for pole and victory this weekend.

Norbert Haug has the ‘F-duct’ debate around by admitting he questions the exhaust solution featured on this year’s McLaren car.
Some teams – notably Red Bull, Lotus and Ferrari – have complained loudly about the W03′s aerodynamic configuration, arguing the F-duct ban completely ruled out similar systems that are triggered by a driver’s movement.
Sebastien Buemi has allowed himself only a modest dig at Toro Rosso’s new drivers, after Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo slumped to 16th and 17th places in qualifying for the Chinese grand prix.
