Minor started from first place, his second pole and second win of the weekend
Tim Minor briefly lost his race lead on a messy restart but took it back one lap later and pulled out a gap in the No. 88 Citation to take his second win in two days and sweep the F2000 season opener at VIR for Ski Motorsports.

It was the second win of the weekend for Starrantino
Adrian Starrantino emerged first by .056 seconds to sweep the weekend after a two-car fight emerged at the 17-turn VIRginia International Raceway in the second race and closing event of the season opener for the F1600 Formula F Championship Series.

Gavin, Milner, Popow and MacNeil claim class titles
Muscle Milk Pickett Racing returned to its winning ways Saturday in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón, the same day where three class driver championship battles ended at VIRginia International Raceway. It marked a magical day for the ALMS in its debut at VIR.

Record-setting qualifying lap headlines track’s first official ALMS action
Klaus Graf and Muscle Milk Pickett Racing cemented their place in the history books Friday at VIRginia International Raceway. Graf set an all-time track record en route to pole position for Saturday’s VIR 240 – the first race at the circuit for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón.

Corvette Racing, CORE autosport 1-2 in their classes
Klaus Graf went fastest again Friday at VIRginia International Raceway – this time in an official session for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón. He set a lap of 1:36.586 (121.881 mph) in Muscle Milk Pickett Racing’s Honda Performance Development ARX-03a prototype in the morning’s opening practice for the VIR 240.

Quickest on test day for ALMS’ first visit to circuit
With an eye toward regaining the form that won it five straight races earlier this year, Muscle Milk Pickett Racing set the fastest time in testing Thursday at VIRginia International Raceway for the weekend’s VIR 240. The No. 6 Honda Performance Development ARX-03a turned a best lap of 1:37.457 (120.792 mph) with Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr sharing seattime.

Honoring another Corvette Racing stalwart at VIR

First trip to historic circuit includes championship implications
A new venue for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón looks to play a huge role in determining the 2012 ALMS champions. The VIR 240 is the first race at Virginia International Raceway for America’s premier sports car racing championship. The four-hour race – hence the ‘240’ – pays two additional points per position, a critical factor with all but two titles up for grabs.

F1600 Formula F Championship Series heads to Lime Rock Park
Two wild races at VIR in April ended with a win for Brandon Newey, who leads the point standings for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Mygale/Honda, and a victory for Matias Koykka, driving the Spectrum/Honda. As the F1600 Formula F Championship Series heads to Lime Rock Park, those two are expected to battle along with 2011 Champion Bill Valet, returning for a one-off, and a number of other fast, young rookies, in addition to a field of F1600 veterans.

La Rocca leads at VIR
Robert La Rocca made it a clean sweep at VIR with his second victory of the weekend, along with two poles and two fastest laps for his HP-Tech Motorsports team. La Rocca held off an early challenge from the Radon of Fabio Orsolon, and then another challenge later in the race from Tim Minor’s Citation before separating from the pack, winning over Niki Coello’s RFR and Wyatt Gooden in a Van Diemen.

Robert “The Rock” La Rocca continued the momentum from Saturday’s victory and took his second pole in two days at VIR outpacing Fabio Orsolon’s No. 77 Radon by just under three tenths of a second in the No. 10 Van Diemen for his Ft. Lauderdale-based HP-Tech squad. Wyatt Gooden, who made contact with La Rocca on the opening lap of Saturday’s race, will line up third with Niki Coello in a RFR and Tim Minor’s Citation completing the top five.
The state of Virginia may be entrenched in stock car racing country, but it will step out of its comfort zone this weekend when sports car racing takes over at Virginia International Raceway.
