American multinational Mastercard could be set to return to formula one, according to the latest rumour from Brazil.
Russia’s f1news.ru reported that Mastercard – having sponsored Lola’s stillborn F1 effort in 1997 and then Jordan between 1998-2001 – has now agreed a trackside sponsorship deal with Bernie Ecclestone’s company FOM.

Reigning world champions Red Bull left Austin without paying a bill.
Germany’s Bild newspaper reports that, prior to the US grand prix, the team pre-ordered a pair of customised, Red Bull-branded cowboy boots for Sebastian Vettel. But Noel Escobar, the Austin-based master boot maker, told the newspaper: “We worked through the night but no one came to pick them up.

On paper, Sebastian Vettel is the overwhelming favourite to seal his third consecutive drivers’ crown this weekend in Brazil.
His 13-point lead over Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso means he can steer his ultra-competitive Red Bull to just fourth place at Interlagos and still set off for his winter slumber with the title. “But Alonso still must win,” Red Bull’s Dr Helmut Marko is quoted by Speed Week. “He must take the risk. That’s the important thing.”

Jenson Button thinks Sergio Perez could struggle to fill Lewis Hamilton’s winning boots at McLaren next year.
Mexican Perez has been signed to replace 2008 world champion and F1′s last-start winner Hamilton for 2013 and beyond. Currently at Sauber, 22-year-old Perez has said his 2013 target is wins and the title, but in the five races since the McLaren deal was announced, he has failed to score even a single point.

Narain Karthikeyan has hit back at Sebastian Vettel, following the latest bout of criticism from the reigning world champion.
Vettel’s Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, pointed the finger at HRT’s Karthikeyan after Vettel lost the lead of the US grand prix on Sunday to Lewis Hamilton. “The race unfortunately hinged on one backmarker that didn’t use his mirrors,” he said.

F1 will have its championship finale in Brazil next Sunday, after Sebastian Vettel failed to win the US grand prix.
But Red Bull’s German further expanded his points lead over his never-say-die title rival Fernando Alonso in Austin, with the gap now 13 points with just the twentieth race of the season in Sao Paulo still lying ahead.

Hellmund plans to raise between $60-75 million
The former mastermind of this weekend’s US grand prix in Austin, Tavo Hellmund, now has his sights fixed on returning formula one to Mexico. Hellmund fell out spectacularly with the eventual Circuit of the Americas management, but he will be at the track this weekend and has some key meetings planned.

The F1 chief executive said this week that, because the US is about the same size as Europe and a huge market for the sport, there should be more American races on the calendar. Formula one is this weekend finally ending a five-year hiatus by reviving the US grand prix at the brand new Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Mark Webber has warned that the 2012 championship finale may not be as spectacular as some are expecting.
The Australian’s Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel, and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, are separated by just 10 points with only the Austin and Brazil races now to come. But Webber told WA Today: “They may not even see each other on-track — that’s the way it turns out sometimes.

Title protagonists Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso have headed straight from Abu Dhabi to their respective driver simulators.
“It should be a relax day,” said Ferrari’s Spaniard Alonso on Facebook, “but change (of) plan, simulator session now.” Alonso finished second in Abu Dhabi, reducing his points deficit to Red Bull’s dominant title leader Sebastian Vettel to 10 points, with just Austin and Brazil now to go. “Alonso can still win,” former F1 driver Patrick Tambay told France’s RMC Sport.

Charlie Whiting has given Austin’s new Circuit of the Americas the green light to host its inaugural US grand prix in November.
We reported on Tuesday that F1′s highest-ranking FIA official was at the brand new venue for an inspection. “Everything I’ve seen has been absolutely first class,” Whiting is quoted by the Austin American Statesman newspaper. “Progress since last time I was here has been amazing.”
