Teams ‘will adapt’ to new tyre situation – Gutierrez
Esteban Gutierrez, Sauber’s new race driver, has given a less dramatic assessment of the tyre situation heading into the 2013 season.
Last season dubbed ‘the tyre whisperer’, Mexican Perez has subsequently switched to McLaren, where last week at Barcelona he said the degradation of Pirelli’s new compounds is “extreme”. Back at Sauber, however, fellow Mexican Gutierrez is less panicked.

‘Downbeat’ Massa fastest in new Ferrari
Felipe Massa emotions were in the brazing zone on Thursday, despite putting Ferrari’s new F138 on top of the test timesheets at Jerez.
“It means nothing,” said the Brazilian. “Several teams have very quick and well balanced cars and so I am 100 per cent keeping my feet on the ground.” Indeed, those at the southern Spanish circuit also sensed Massa’s caution: a British Sky reporter saying he seemed “downbeat”.

Wolff to ‘keep an eye’ on Williams’ Bottas
Toto Wolff, Mercedes’ new co-owner and director, has admitted he will be keeping an eye on rookie Valtteri Bottas’ progress in 2013.
Before switching to Mercedes, Austrian Wolff had the very same role at Williams, where last year Finn Bottas, 23, was groomed for a future race seat as reserve driver. Now, as the youngster steps up to race, Wolff has jumped ship.

Happy Razia says Marussia race seat ‘a dream’
Luiz Razia, a 23-year-old Brazilian, looks set to secure the Marussia race seat for 2013 recently vacated by salaried driver Timo Glock.
Brazil’s Globo said Razia, the 2012 GP2 runner-up, had secured the place “after months of negotiations”. “The official announcement will be made on February 5, during the presentation of the new car” at Jerez, said the report.
