“It’s good to stage the kart race here at Autosport International”
International stars from the world of two and four-wheeled motorsport, football, music and television, joined together to race in honour of British IndyCar Champion Dan Wheldon in the Autosport International Karting Challenge in aid of Alzheimer’s Society, on Friday, January 11.

Provisional pole in France
A near record pace final lap from Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) and a very slightly slower mark from Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike Team) conspired to keep local favourite Sylvain Guintoli (Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati) off the provisional pole spot in France. Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike) was once again on fine form as he joined the top four, with the second Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati of Jakub Smrz fifth fastest.

The weekend’s event programme at the Spanish Round of the FIM Superbike World Championship got underway this afternoon with an entertaining race …to see who could slice the local ‘jamón de Teruel’ ham specialty in the best possible way! The riders convened for this tough but delicate task were Max Biaggi, Carlos Checa, Ruben Xaus, Michel Fabrizio, Eugene Laverty, Troy Corser, Chris Vermeulen and David Salom.

In a close qualifying session the top 21 riders were within 1.5 seconds of the top spot
Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) ended up on the top slot in Friday’s World Superbike qualifying session with a time of 1 minute 36.024 seconds, half-a-second quicker than Cal Crutchlow’s lap record set during last year’s race. Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) went head-to-head with Checa for much of the session, but any last-minute attempt by the Italian to oust his rival from the top was thwarted by a crash by Troy Corser (BMW Motorrad) four minutes from the end that interrupted proceedings.

Checa leading overall championship standings
On the American Memorial Day holiday 48,00 enthusiastic fans were treated to a double win from a rider who was robbed of a double last year by simple bad luck, Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati). The Spaniard, who entered this event as championship leader, had a dose of good luck this time as his two main rivals had difficult raceday experiences.

Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) put in a 1 minute 58.315 second lap on a drying track to take his fourth Tissot Superpole win of the 2011 season and give himself the best possible starting slot for raceday on Monday.

Corser, Aaron, Whitehouse and Birch take top honors
Team Corser – consisting of World Superbike superstar Troy Corser, Rick Aaron of Fox 13 television in Salt Lake City, Ryan Whitehouse from the Deseret Chemical Depot and fan Kellen Birch of Rexburg, Idaho, won the Inaugural BigM Weekend Superbike Super Celebrity Mega Kart Showdown at Miller Motorsports Park today.

Max now has a 15 point lead over Leon Haslam
A remarkable day of unpredictable final outcomes and drama on track finally delivered two 21-lap race victories to Max Biaggi and his Aprilia Alitalia team at Miller Motorsports Park. Max now has a 15 point lead over Leon Haslam (Alstare Suzuki) but he may not have won a single race today had Althea Ducati privateer Carlos Checa not had his machine quit twice on him while leading.

In front of 115,000 people in Monza
An outstanding weekend of action at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, played out in front of 115,000 people, culminated in a remarkable double win for Max Biaggi and his Aprilia Alitalia team, and pulled Max up to within three points of championship leader Leon Haslam (Alstare Suzuki).
James Toseland secures a pair of podium finishes at Assen and moved himself up to fifth in the World Superbike standings after shrugging off an indifferent grid position to twice stand on the podium at Assen. 
Jakub Smrz and Max Biaggi put in their pitch for a Superpole challenge later today by going fastest in second provisional qualifying in Portugal, the pair emerging with identical lap times. 
The latest World Superbike Championship season kicks off at the magnificent 4.445km long Phillip Island circuit in Australia this weekend with an entry list split between seven competing manufacturers. 
A virtually full grid of SBK competitors line up at Phillip Island for the final official pre-season test of the 2010 season, starting Sunday 21 and ending Monday 22 February.
