Venezuela GP Lazarus joins GP2 Series

Italian team get entry for the Series in 2012 and 2013

Venezuela GP Lazarus GP2 Series MediaGP2 Series organisers are pleased to announce that Venezuela GP Lazarus have been allocated an entry for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Founded in 2009 by Tancredi Pagiaro, the Italian squad joins the thirteen team field in replacement of Super Nova Racing. Venezuela GP Lazarus will run their GP2/11 cars for the first time in two weeks in Jerez where the first official pre-season testing of the Series will take place on February 28-29 and March 1st.

Calado kept the lead at the start from reverse pole and never surrendered despite huge pressure first from GP3 graduate Antonio Felix Da Costa and then from the experienced Marcus Ericsson.

The Swiss racer took a lights-to-flag victory with a dominant drive, and in spite of his closest rival Luiz Razia’s best efforts to try and reduce the gap, Leimer remained in perfect control of his Racing Engineering machine all race long and was never in danger. Jolyon Palmer in third pocketed his first GP2 podium finish.

GP2 race winner Giacomo Ricci returned to the field at Super Nova, GP3 2011 runner-up James Calado rejoined Lotus ART, and Sam Bird tested again with Trident Racing.
