Kamui Kobayashi is sounding increasingly resigned about bowing out of formula one at the end of the season.
The exciting Japanese, who got his break with Toyota at the end of 2009 and was then snapped up by Sauber, admitted recently he has been told to find some backing or risk losing the seat at the Swiss team for 2013. “Unfortunately my plan for next year is not fixed yet, but of course I will do my best,” he told his Twitter followers this week.

Whilst admitting the RB8 has “very nervous” handling, Sebastian Vettel insists there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the 2012 Red Bull.
The German looks likely to struggle to add a third consecutive drivers’ title to his tally this season, after slumping to just sixth in the points standings after the first two races. In China, he has reverted to a launch specification of the Adrian Newey-penned car’s exhaust layout, whilst Mark Webber is plugging ahead with a further development of the Australia-Malaysia solution.

Sergio Perez has admitted his Monaco crash was a hefty setback in his debut formula one season.
The 21-year-old Mexican, who will stay with the Sauber team in 2012, crashed heavily during qualifying for the prestigious race in May. He sat out Sunday’s race and then tried to return in Canada two weeks later, ultimately giving up his seat to Pedro de la Rosa after not feeling well during practice.

Paffett insists he has not given up on his F1 dream.
Gary Paffett insists he is not “bitter” despite sitting on the sidelines while his 2010 rival is now hot property in formula one. The Briton, under long term contract to Mercedes in the German touring car series DTM, is also a test and reserve driver at top F1 team McLaren.

Pirelli is open to a tyre war in formula one but doubts the economic climate is right at present.
“At Pirelli we love competition,” the Italian marque’s British motor sport director Paul Hembery told spox.com. “But this is not a question for the moment,” he explained, six races into Pirelli’s new three-year tenure as the sport’s sole supplier.

That is the view of outspoken former triple world champion Niki Lauda, who was asked in a German-language interview with spox.com about the looming fates of Felipe Massa and Mark Webber.

Ferrari got substantial upgrades for its 2011 car up and running at the Vairano circuit in northern Italy.
Autosprint said the “secret test” was to trial the “evolution” of the newly renamed 150 Italia car with Davide Rigon at the wheel. Ferrari had confirmed on Sunday that Italian Rigon conducted an aerodynamic test on the Vairano straight, and that Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa would then get an early start to the Barcelona test on Monday for “filming”.

The Italian marque’s motor racing boss Paul Hembery has defended Pirelli amid criticism of its 2011 formula one tyres. It has been reported that the hard/soft compound combination for the initial four races of the season was selected because of serious problems with the medium and super-soft tyres.

Senna not considered for Kubica sub role
Renault is expected to announce on Monday that Nick Heidfeld has been selected as injured Robert Kubica’s replacement for the start of the 2011 season. Injured Pole Kubica will be recovering from injuries suffered in a rally crash for months at least, and his former BMW teammate Heidfeld impressed the Lotus-sponsored team during his audition for the seat at Jerez at the weekend.

23-year-old Hulkenberg only had two incidents
Despite now searching for a 2011 employer, promising rookie Nico Hulkenberg made fewer mistakes than any of his competitors this year. That is according to an analysis by Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, which found that – at the other end of the scale – his fellow rookie Kamui Kobayashi had the most spins, off-track moments and crashes in 2010.

Jaime Alguersuari has offered a less than flattering opinion about the personality of his fellow Spaniard and F1 driver Fernando Alonso. “He is cold (frio), very cold,” said 20-year-old Alguersuari, the youngest driver on the grid who races with the second Red Bull team, Toro Rosso.

The Italian press was less sympathetic.
F1′s media and pundits are divided over Michael Schumacher’s late overtaking move on Fernando Alonso in Monaco. The stewards, including Schumacher’s former title nemesis Damon Hill, penalised the seven time world champion for illegally passing the Spaniard during a safety car period.
