Intercontinental Rally Challenge, round 11 of 11
Andreas Mikkelsen has become the youngest driver to win the Intercontinental Rally Challenge after claiming victory on the season-closing Cyprus Rally. Amid emotional scenes captured live on Eurosport, Mikkeslen secured the title by one and a half points from Jan Kopecky, sealing glory by going fastest on the final stage alongside co-driver Ola Floene.

Thierry Neuville has won Rallye Sanremo following a thrilling finish to the Intercontinental Rally Challenge round on the Italian Riviera this afternoon. Driving a Team Peugeot Belgium-Luxembourg 207 Super 2000, Neuville surged ahead on the demanding asphalt event with one stage remaining, having cancelled out an overnight deficit of 16.6s.

Jan Kopecký has claimed his first victory in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge for more than a year after triumphing on a thrilling Barum Czech Rally Zlín. The ŠKODA Motorsport ace, roared on by approximately 300,000 home fans, beat Freddy Loix by 1.2s, the closest finish in the history of the IRC. Team-mate Juho Hänninen took third to make it a ŠKODA podium lockout.

Sata Rallye Acores is set for a thrilling final-day showdown after Andreas Mikkelsen slashed Juho Hanninen’s overall lead to 1.3s. The SKODA UK Motorsport driver began the closing loop of three stages 10.1s behind the defending Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion but edged into contention with a hat trick of fastest stage times on the tricky gravel event, which has been full of drama from the outset.

Juho Hanninen has completed the opening day of Sata Rallye Acores with a lead of 4.3s over last year’s winner Bruno Magalhaes. Hanninen, the defending Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion, snatched first place from Andreas Mikkelsen when the Norwegian was slowed on stage two with powersteering failure, and extended his advantage at the wheel of his SKODA Motorsport Fabia Super 2000 with the fastest time on the day-closing superspecial stage in front of several thousand fans.

More than 40 crews will contest Sata Rallye Acores, round six from 14-16 July.
Eight Super 2000 cars will be in action with Bryan Bouffier topping the entry in his Peugeot France-backed 207. The Rallye Monte-Carlo winner forms part of the three-strong Peugeot attack on the all-gravel event, which also includes Peugeot UK’s Guy Wilks and Peugeot Sport Portugal’s Bruno Magalahes, who claimed a dramatic final-stage victory on the rally in 2010.

Investigators looked into wrongdoing
Italian investigators have finally cleared both the Polish driver and his team in the wake of Robert Kubica’s horror rally crash in February. The 26-year-old spent 76 days in an Italian hospital after Armco barriers pierced through the Skoda Fabia S2000 car during a stage of the minor Andora rally.
