Richard Petty’s cousin had uncanny ability to communicate with ‘The King’
Within the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage, among crew chiefs and mechanics, the most popular addition to the NASCAR Hall of Fame is one of their own – Dale Inman. Inman, according to his first cousin Richard Petty, invented the position we now call the crew chief.
NASCAR is interviewing candidates for a new Sprint Cup Series director, and current garage boss John Darby will train his replacement before moving into a managerial role. 
Gillett Evernham Motorsports (GEM) and Petty Holdings announced today an agreement in principle to form a new NASCAR Sprint Cup team co-owned by Richard Petty, Petty Holdings, owned by majority shareholder Boston Ventures, and Gillett Evernham Motorsports. 
NASCAR chairman Brian France said last week that the series would consider aggressive cost-cutting measures to try and save race teams money in a slumping economy.
