Red Bull’s new car is the slowest of all in a straight line, according to an analysis by respected German magazine Auto Motor und Sport.
Based on the all-important final two days of Barcelona running last weekend, correspondent Michael Schmidt found that the RB9 (307.7kph) was 12.8kph slower on the long front straight than the quickest, the Marussia.

From the depths of 2011, Williams is now ‘not far’ from the pace of F1′s strongest teams.
That is the claim of Pastor Maldonado, who in the newly Renault-powered and Mike Coughlan-designed FW34 qualified eighth and was pushing Fernando Alonso for fifth in the race when he crashed out of Sunday’s season opener in Melbourne on the last lap.

A day before it debuts at Jerez, the Renault-powered RB8 will be revealed on Monday. And the launch of Adrian Newey’s next creation has become even more eagerly anticipated after rival top teams Ferrari and McLaren unveiled their 2012 machines.

Contrary to reports, Williams has not yet debuted its 2012 car.
It was said the British team ran the unlaunched FW34 at the Idiada facility near Barcelona, with tester Valtteri Bottas at the wheel. In fact, “the shakedown could not take place due to bad weather conditions,” a spokesperson is quoted as saying in the German press.

Williams’ new reserve driver Valtteri Bottas will not start his Friday practice duties until after the 2012 season opener in Australia.
The Finn will only start appearing in the Renault-powered FW34 in Malaysia, a week after the first race, Finland’s Turun Sanomat newspaper revealed. The newspaper also said Finn Bottas, 22 and fresh out of the junior GP3 class, will probably not split his 2012 programme with a race seat in another category.

New F1 tracks must allow overtaking – Todt
Team orders will be “regulated” rather than allowed in formula one, FIA president Jean Todt has revealed. The issue came back onto the agenda in 2010, when Felipe Massa was ordered aside for Fernando Alonso at Hockenheim by a Ferrari engineer telling the Brazilian: “Fernando is faster than you”.

Alguersuari is under contract with Red Bull through 2013
Jaime Alguersuari could test Red Bull’s title-winning RB6 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, the Spanish sports daily Marca reports. Currently, only the new world champion Sebastian Vettel is scheduled to drive the Renault-powered car at Yas Marina later this week, when the F1 teams will get their first taste of the new Pirelli tyres for 2011.
