“It is therefore part of the team’s culture to change its driver lineup from time to time in order to achieve this goal” – Tost.
Scuderia Toro Rosso will have a completely new driver line-up for the 2012 Formula 1 season, made up of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne.
Scuderia Toro Rosso announces all-new driver line-up for 2012
It will be the first time since the team’s 2006 debut that it will begin the year with an all new line-up. Both drivers have come through the Red Bull Junior Driver programme and the decision to promote Daniel and Jean-Eric to Scuderia Toro Rosso was taken by the team in conjunction with Red Bull.
Currently, three races before Brazil, Buemi trails Spaniard Alguersuari by three points.
Sebastien Buemi must up his game if he wants to practice on Friday morning ahead of next month’s 2011 season finale in Brazil. Toro Rosso has told the Swiss, and his teammate Jaime Alguersuari, that whoever has the least amount of points after the penultimate race in Abu Dhabi will give up his car at Interlagos to French hopeful Jean-Eric Vergne.
Jaime Alguersuari is back in favour at Toro Rosso, according to the Spanish press.
Very recently, the 21-year-old was heavily tipped to make way at the Red Bull junior team for Daniel Ricciardo. But the Spaniard Alguersuari then achieved consecutive points finishes in Canada and Valencia, reportedly spurring Red Bull’s driver manager Helmut Marko to instead find a place at HRT for Ricciardo’s mid-season debut.
Ricciardo could even replace either Sebastien Buemi or Jaime Alguersuari before 2012
Daniel Ricciardo will almost certainly make his grand prix debut with Toro Rosso in 2012, team boss Franz Tost has admitted in Turkey. Now at the very top of Red Bull’s junior programme, the 21-year-old Australian is travelling with the Italian team throughout the 2011 season to drive the STR6 on Friday mornings.
Helmut Marko has indicated Sebastien Buemi’s place at Toro Rosso may not be secure.
Red Bull’s famously-brusque driver manager Marko was openly disappointed with the young Swiss after 2010, with the appointment of Daniel Ricciardo as Friday driver adding even more pressure now. But Buemi, 22, was impressive on Saturday, out-qualifying his teammate Jaime Alguersuari and securing the Red Bull junior team’s first Q3 appearance since 2009.
