Brit bounces back from non-finish yesterday to take front-row start

Luciano Bacheta bounced back from a disappointing race yesterday to secure pole for today’s (Sunday) second Formula Two race at Spa. The 22-year-old Brit waited for a clear track midway through the session to set a best time of 2:03.925s to clinch his second pole of the season. He was followed closely home – just 0.166s – by round seven winner Markus Pommer with Alex Fontana taking third for today’s race which gets underway at 14:15 (local time).

German secures front row start ahead of McKenzie and Marinescu

Markus Pommer put in a superb late lap to storm to his maiden pole during today’s (Saturday) closely-fought Formula Two qualifying session at Spa. The 21-year-old German waited until the closing stages to post a blistering 2:04.623s to edge out Daniel McKenzie, who had held the top spot for much of the 30-minute session, by a mere 0.050s, with Mihai Marinescu securing third.

Pole leads the way at sun-soaked Nűrburgring

Kevin Mirocha shone during this afternoon’s (Friday) sun-soaked second Formula Two practice session at the Nűrburgring. The 20-year-old Pole, who secured his maiden podium last time out in Portimáo, posted a best time of 1:47.581s, 0.895s quicker than his nearest rival Dino Zamparelli. Swiss teenager Mathéo Tuscher went third quickest for the session with Daniel McKenzie in fourth and newcomer Axcil Jefferies impressing in fifth.

“The Monza race will remain — it won’t be destroyed by Rome’s.”
A five-year contract for a formula one street race in the Italian capital was signed at Monza on Friday, Rome grand prix officials have announced. Ahead of Italy’s existing race near Milan, they said that Rome would also feature on the calendar in 2012 or 2013, after the agreement was signed by Bernie Ecclestone and organiser Maurizio Flammini on Friday.
