Luca di Montezemolo has named two famous American motor racing names as ideal partners to run a third Ferrari car in formula one. The Maranello based marque’s president is a regular critic of F1′s struggling smallest constructors, arguing this week that it’s “better to have a third (Ferrari) car with a competitive team than a team that cannot even do GP2″.

Tagliani posted third best time
Scott Dixon was quickest in opening practice for this weekend’s Honda Indy Toronto IndyCar street race, despite tangling with Takuma Sato at the end of the hour. Contact between Dixon and Sato at Turn 6 resulted in the KV car spin around in front of Dixon’s Ganassi Dallara and come to a halt blocking it. The following Bertrand Baguette (Conquest) then slid into the rear of Dixon’s car in the traffic jam.

Top-10 Finish for Tagliani at the Indy 500
In a race that was played in the pit lane and where many on track incidents changed the course of the race, FAZZT Race Team driver Alex Tagliani stayed out of trouble to finish 10th in the Indy 500 race held Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Starting from fifth on the grid, the Canadian driver ran in the top four in the first segment of the race.

In the final practice for the Indy 500
Canadian driver Alex Tagliani was tenth quickest during Carb Day, the ultimate practice session before the start of the Indy 500, scheduled to run this Sunday, May 30. Tagliani posted his best time on the 43rd of the 46 laps he completed today, driving around the 4.023-kilometer Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 40.3644 seconds for an average speed of 359.725 km/h.

Jay Guy named Brad Keselowski’s crew chief in Cup series
Jay Guy will be the crew chief for Brad Keselowski’s #12 Sprint Cup Series team, Penske Racing announced earlier this week. Guy most recently worked as the crew chief on the #78 Furniture Row Racing car driven by Regan Smith. Guy also has been a crew chief in the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series.

Gil de Ferran’s illustrious career comes to an end this weekend with the four-hour Monterey Sports Car Championships presented by Patrón. De Ferran Motorsports’ team owner hopes to end his run on a high note with a victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the site where he scored his first IndyCar victory in the 1995 season.
