Muscle Milk Pickett Racing returned to its winning ways Saturday in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón, the same day where three class driver championship battles ended at VIRginia International Raceway. It marked a magical day for the ALMS in its debut at VIR.

Record-setting qualifying lap headlines track’s first official ALMS action
Klaus Graf and Muscle Milk Pickett Racing cemented their place in the history books Friday at VIRginia International Raceway. Graf set an all-time track record en route to pole position for Saturday’s VIR 240 – the first race at the circuit for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón.

Quickest on test day for ALMS’ first visit to circuit
With an eye toward regaining the form that won it five straight races earlier this year, Muscle Milk Pickett Racing set the fastest time in testing Thursday at VIRginia International Raceway for the weekend’s VIR 240. The No. 6 Honda Performance Development ARX-03a turned a best lap of 1:37.457 (120.792 mph) with Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr sharing seattime.

Honoring another Corvette Racing stalwart at VIR
The “Summer of 100 Starts” ends this weekend in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón with Oliver Gavin. The popular British star is a mainstay at Corvette Racing where he has spent the last decade. It’s been a fantastic marriage with three ALMS driver championships, 37 victories (fourth all-time) and 20 pole positions (tied for second all-time). Entered: Hollywood’s Patrick Dempsey; Westport-based CEO; Indy 500 stand-out
The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón starts its summer swing – six races over the next 11 weeks – with round four at Lime Rock Park July 6-7, the ninth annual Northeast Grand Prix. It’s got one of the biggest grids ever for this event: 32 entries made up of 15 prototypes and 17 GT cars.

More than 25 drivers with formula one experience will be on the grid at this weekend’s 80th running of the fabled 24 hour Le Mans race.
Near the front, in the premier LMP1 prototype class, will be Allan McNish and Marc Gene, driving for Audi. Scot McNish raced in F1 with Toyota in 2002, while Gene drove for Minardi and is still a Ferrari test driver. Toyota has since left F1 and for 2012 has entered Le Mans, and the Japanese marque’s number 8 entry is a grand prix-superteam featuring Anthony Davidson (Super Aguri), Sebastien Buemi (Toro Rosso) and one-off 1999 Minardi driver Stephane Sarrazin.

Gavin just 0.1 off best time in GTE Pro in quickest Corvette
Oliver Gavin put Corvette Racing in a strong position heading into the 80th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Briton set a lap of 3:58.971 on the 8.5-mile circuit to put the No. 74 Corvette C6.R second in the GTE Pro class during Sunday’s official test – a dress rehearsal for the world’s most famous auto race on June 16-17. Corvette Racing won the class in 2011.

Quickest time in both of Wednesday’s Winter Test sessions
Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing opened the Sebring Winter Test in strong style Tuesday with the fastest times in both sessions with its Aston Martin-powered Lola. The exotic closed-top prototype turned in a best lap of 1:50.530 (120.510 mph) with team owner Greg Pickett, Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr sharing driving duties.

Sets three fastest laps for Muscle Milk Team CytoSport in Mosport test
In his first laps driving the Porsche RS Spyder since 2008, Romain Dumas set the fastest lap in testing for the Mobil 1 presents Grand Prix of Mosport. The Frenchman set a time of 1:07.801 (130.564 mph) in the Porsche prototype he will drive with Klaus Graf.

First pole for Brit and first overall for Dyson Racing since 2004
Guy Smith gave Mazda power its first overall pole position on its home track Friday. Dyson Racing’s popular Brit set a fast lap of 1:12.338 (111.377 mph) in qualifying for the American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Tequila Patrón.
