Imola is always a crucial event for all the riders
The hectic and always entertaining 2010 HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship enters its final two race weekends of the year this week, with the penultimate round about to take place at the classic Italian venue of Imola, between 24 and 26 September and the final round held one week later at Magny-Cours on 3 October. Imola is a crucial event for all the riders to get into position to achieve their ultimate 2010 season ambitions.

43rd pole position extending own record
Troy Corser (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) posted a brilliant 1 minute 35.001 seconds to take the new track best lap and BMW’s first ever Superpole win. In doing so he extended his own record of pole wins in WSBK racing to 43 and he did it in some style, finishing half a second clear of his nearest rival.

Edging Max Biaggi and Cal Crutchlow
Althea Ducati rider Carlos Checa dominated the final Superpole session with a fabulous new track best lap of 1’47.081, beating Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) by 0.333 seconds and Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) by 0.567 seconds, in a session that was red-flagged for a time and then re-started.

Max now has a 15 point lead over Leon Haslam
A remarkable day of unpredictable final outcomes and drama on track finally delivered two 21-lap race victories to Max Biaggi and his Aprilia Alitalia team at Miller Motorsports Park. Max now has a 15 point lead over Leon Haslam (Alstare Suzuki) but he may not have won a single race today had Althea Ducati privateer Carlos Checa not had his machine quit twice on him while leading.

Infront Sports & Media has set a new rights agreement with China’s biggest regional television station
Guangdong TVis to broadcast FIM Superbike World Championship delayed highlights coverage across the country. The agreement started with coverage from the Kyalami, South Africa round held on 16 May and will include all the remaining rounds of the 2010 season.

Two action-packed races held under clear Spanish skies
Two different winners made their mark in Spain today with Leon Haslam (Suzuki Alstare) in race one and Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox) in race two. The races could not have been more different, with Haslam a clear leader in an uninterrupted contest, while Haga won an aggregate race two by only 0.025 seconds.

After four tests sessions over two days
Michel Fabrizio posted the quickest time of all at the official pre-season tests at Phillip Island, a 1’31.650, set on the final morning on his Ducati Xerox machine. Shane Byrne (Althea Ducati) was second quickest, on a 1’31.662, while Jakub Smrz (Pata B&G Ducati) was one of the riders to improve in the final session, taking his Ducati to third best time, only 0.030 seconds from Fabrizio.

World Supersport – Sofuoglu back in the mix at full pace
Privateer Ducati rider Carlos Checa set the quickest time of the first day of track action at the official tests in Phillip Island, taking his Althea Ducati to a 1’31.959 lap time. His pace was less than one second slower than the track best in this class, 1’31.050, which was set in qualifying for the 2009 race.

Rea heads British supremacy at Portimao
Jonathan Rea powered to the best time at the end of the three-day Infront Motor Sports official Superbike test session at Portimao in Portugal. The Northern Ireland youngster’s time of 1 minute 42.270 seconds was quicker even than Ben Spies’ 2009 pole mark for Yamaha.

Ben Spies (Yamaha World Superbike) won the first race and then controlled the situation in race 2 to take his and Yamaha’s first ever World Superbike Championship title in front of an 86,000 crowd in the final round of the series at Portimao.

Haga starts from row 3
The final Superpole session of 2009 went the same way as ten others this season as Ben Spies made it 11 out of 14 for the Yamaha World Superbike team, an outright record for the series, at the Algarve Circuit in Portugal. The Texan’s lap time of 1 minute 42.412 seconds was almost one second under last year’s best lap set by Troy Bayliss.

Spies faster than Haga in Q1 at Portimao
Jonathan Rea (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) set the quickest time in today’s opening qualifying session at the Portimao circuit in Portugal. The Northern Ireland youngster grabbed the provisional pole from Jakub Smrz in the final stages of the session, with a time of 1 minute 43.786 seconds, eight-hundredths faster than the Guandalini Ducati man.

Ben Spies (Yamaha World Superbike) equaled the record of 10 Superpoles in his rookie WSB season
Spies will line up in the front slot for the penultimate round of the championship at Magny-Cours. The Texan bolted on one of his two regulation Q-tyres in the final few minutes to stop the clocks with an incredible time of 1 minute 37.709 seconds, a new circuit best lap.

Michel Fabrizio’s magic moment continues as last Sunday’s Imola winner powered to the quickest time in the first Superbike qualifying session at Magny-Cours. The Ducati Xerox rider’s time of 1 minute 38.770 seconds was just three-tenths away from Haga’s best lap of 1’38.444.

At legendary Enzo & Dino Ferrari circuit
The FIM Superbike World Championship, sponsored by Hannspree, returns to Imola’s legendary Enzo & Dino Ferrari circuit three years on from its last appearance. With respect to the 2006 race, which saw Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) conquer his second world title, the track layout has been slightly modified in the section from the Rivazza to the pit straight with the construction of a new chicane and the circuit now measures 4.936 km.
Jonathan Rea (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) and Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox) each got back to winning ways this weekend in front of a 45,000 crowd at the Nurburgring, as Rea posted his fourth and Haga his second win of the 2010 championship campaign.
