Tagliani to drive in Montreal in the NASCAR Nationwide NAPA 200

Turner Motorsports will field the No. 30 Chevrolet with driver Alex Tagliani for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on August 18, 2012. Tagliani, a hometown favorite in Montreal, will compete on the circuit he knows well after narrowly finishing second in an epic battle to the finish during last year’s event. He hopes to better that result in 2012.

Bruno Senna is considering Nascar as a back-up option should his F1 journey end for now.

That is the claim of the Italiaracing website, in the wake of the Brazilian’s loss of his Renault/Lotus race seat. It is rumoured Senna, 28, could return to the team’s reserve role for 2012, but Italiaracing said Nascar is another option, where his countryman Nelson Piquet Jr headed after his own F1 career foundered in 2009.

Nelson will close off his first full season
Nelson Piquet Jr will compete in both the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series as the 2011 NASCAR season comes to a close at the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida this weekend. Nelson has excelled at the intermediate-style tracks on the circuit this season, earning five top-five and seven top-10 finishes in 12 starts on 1.5-mile tracks.

The appearance of F1′s safety car is very likely during the Singapore grand prix this weekend.
That is the view of Mercedes GP, who said that on the entire F1 calendar there is a 100 per cent record of safety car deployment at only two race venues. They are Singapore and Korea, although “in the case of Korea this is calculated on the basis of a single race”, said the German team in a feature preview.

An emotional Nelson Piquet Jr was celebrating last night after finished second at the NASCAR Truck Series race at Nashville, his first podium in the American category. Piquet finished second behind Kyle Busch who normally races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Hot on the heels of ‘crashgate’, a new scandal involving Nelson Piquet and his son is set to emerge.

The Brazilian news weekly Veja reports that the racing driver pair are accused of tax evasion and money laundering. The report said triple world champion Piquet, and his 25-year-old son who is known as Nelsinho Piquet, allegedly laundered income by directing it through the automobile federation of the Brazilian state of Ceara.
