“The ERS F1 engine will be fundamentally different”
The official FIA preview of this weekend’s Belgian grand prix overlooked arguably the most famous moment of Eliseo Salazar’s career.
Chilean Salazar, who will make his debut as the driver steward at Spa Francorchamps, contested races for minor F1 teams between 1981 and 1983, and also tasted action at the Indy 500, Le Mans, Daytona, Dakar and world rally.
Last Sunday proved that Pastor Maldonado is no mere ‘pay driver’.
“If he was a fool, he would not be with us, no matter how much money he brings,” Sir Frank Williams is quoted by Brazil’s Globo Esporte. Venezuelan Maldonado, whose links to the state owned oil company PDVSA and president Hugo Chavez controversially deliver many millions to Williams’ Oxfordshire based team, became F1′s fifth different winner of 2012 last weekend in Spain.
Romain Grosjean is a potential grand prix winner.
That is the claim of the Frenchman’s first F1 teammate Fernando Alonso, who shared the Renault team with Grosjean in 2009. The Enstone based team, however, was imploding amid the crashgate scandal, and Grosjean struggled to perform after being drafted in to replace the sacked Nelson Piquet.
Romain Grosjean has admitted he almost quit motor sport after his formula one career hit the rocks after just seven grands prix in 2009.
Among the victims of the ‘crashgate’ saga, the Frenchman had replaced sacked Nelson Piquet at Renault but then fell by the wayside as Flavio Briatore’s career foundered and the team moved into new hands.
“Have I spoken to Fernando about it? He knows and I know how the world works.”
Even now as Fernando Alonso’s teammate, Felipe Massa is not shy to denounce the result of the Singapore grand prix three years ago. It was in that 2008 race that Ferrari’s Massa had a problem during a pitstop that was triggered by Nelson Piquet’s notoriously deliberate crash and resultant safety car.
Fernando Alonso has blamed the British media for his image as a spoilt number 1 driver.
O Estado de S.Paulo correspondent Livio Oricchio asked the Spaniard if it is true that all is well inside his team so long as he does not share equal status with his teammate. “That is a belief that was created in 2007,” said the Ferrari driver, referring to his ill-fated single season alongside Lewis Hamilton at McLaren.
GP2′s newly crowned champion is ready to return to formula one, according to his manager Eric Boullier.
Frenchman Boullier, in charge of the Gravity management company, doubles as Renault team principal, where countryman Romain Grosjean is regarded as a possible teammate for Russian Vitaly Petrov next year.
Renault Sport F1 and Williams F1 are delighted to announce a long-term chassis-engine partnership.

+Williams switches to Renault power for 2012
Renault Sport F1, the F1 division of Renault, will supply AT&T Williams with its championship-winning V8 power units for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. In addition to the supply of its Formula One engines, the newly-formed alliance includes several other exciting business and marketing opportunities, with a view to continuing after the introduction of the new, energy efficient, turbocharged V6 engines arrive in the sport in 2014.
Hot on the heels of ‘crashgate’, a new scandal involving Nelson Piquet and his son is set to emerge.
The Brazilian news weekly Veja reports that the racing driver pair are accused of tax evasion and money laundering. The report said triple world champion Piquet, and his 25-year-old son who is known as Nelsinho Piquet, allegedly laundered income by directing it through the automobile federation of the Brazilian state of Ceara.
