Champion Vettel slams rivals’ ‘dirty tricks’
Fernando Alonso and Ferrari’s supporters were clinging to hope even after Sebastian Vettel sealed his third consecutive world championship on Sunday. After sealing his third consecutive drivers’ title on Sunday, Sebastian Vettel bemoaned the “dirty tricks” his rivals deployed to try to stop him.

On paper, Sebastian Vettel is the overwhelming favourite to seal his third consecutive drivers’ crown this weekend in Brazil.
His 13-point lead over Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso means he can steer his ultra-competitive Red Bull to just fourth place at Interlagos and still set off for his winter slumber with the title. “But Alonso still must win,” Red Bull’s Dr Helmut Marko is quoted by Speed Week. “He must take the risk. That’s the important thing.”

Mika Salo has backed his countryman Kimi Raikkonen’s radio attitude en route to victory in Abu Dhabi last Sunday.
The 2007 world champion’s growing frustration with his engineer throughout his chase for Lotus’ first win of the season culminated in him saying “leave me alone”. But Salo, another Finnish driver, insisted Raikkonen’s attitude is actually “pretty normal”.

Title protagonists Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso have headed straight from Abu Dhabi to their respective driver simulators.
“It should be a relax day,” said Ferrari’s Spaniard Alonso on Facebook, “but change (of) plan, simulator session now.” Alonso finished second in Abu Dhabi, reducing his points deficit to Red Bull’s dominant title leader Sebastian Vettel to 10 points, with just Austin and Brazil now to go. “Alonso can still win,” former F1 driver Patrick Tambay told France’s RMC Sport.

Sebastian Vettel cannot wrap up his third consecutive drivers’ title this weekend in Abu Dhabi.
The German extended his points lead over Fernando Alonso to 13 points in India, making him now the clear favourite for the championship. But with three races to go, even if Ferrari’s Alonso scores no points this weekend in Abu Dhabi, Vettel would have to wait at least until the penultimate race in Texas in order to seal the deal mathematically in 2012.

Jaime Alguersuari is preparing to announce his plans for 2013, having wrapped up his on-track duties as Pirelli test driver.
“New challenges, new goals. Follow me very soon,” the slogan on the former Toro Rosso racer’s official website reads. The 22-year-old has just concluded his last Pirelli test, at Paul Ricard in France.

With Ferrari still yet to re-sign him for 2013, Felipe Massa insists he sees no better alternative to him on the market.
Rumours say Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez are the frontrunners to replace Massa next season, but the Brazilian thinks he is the best choice. “Many people want my seat,” he is quoted by Spain’s Mundo Deportivo newspaper, “but I do not see anyone better on the market.

Valencia is unlikely to return to the F1 calendar unless Barcelona and Bernie Ecclestone agree to annually alternate the Spanish grand prix starting next year. That is the claim of Mundo Deportivo newspaper, following reports Valencia president Alberto Fabra met with F1′s chief executive during last weekend’s European grand prix.

Afterwards, Michael Schumacher admitted he was “unhappy” with the situation. “Sometimes we are driving only 60, 70 per cent through the corners,” he is quoted by Bild newspaper. Pirelli did not take the criticism lightly, insisting it has made Canada 2010-style, heavily degrading tyres to order, for the benefit of the ‘show’.

HRT has confirmed that its 2012 car, the F112, will finally make its track debut on Monday.
Recently, the FIA barred Red Bull and Ferrari from tweaking their test schedules so that their Barcelona running could end on Monday. But struggling backmarker HRT asked its rivals for special permission, given it had yet to use its separate allowed test day for ‘filming and promotional’ purposes.
