Felix Rosenqvist wants to fight for the title
Felix Rosenqvist has extended his contract with the German team Mücke Motorsport into a third consecutive year. The 21-year-old Swede has signed a deal to compete in FIA Formula 3 European Championship the upcoming season. Rosenqvist finished in second place at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in China in November 2012.

Portuguese António Félix da Costa, who raced in the 2010 Formula 3 Euro Series, celebrated the biggest success of his career to date in Sunday’s Macau Grand Prix. At the end of the race at the 6.12 kilometres long Guia circuit, he had an advantage of 1.573 seconds from Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport), the best-placed Formula 3 Euro Series driver.

Felix Rosenqvist, who ended up fourth in this year’s Formula 3 Euro Series, continued his strong performance of the weekend: after ten laps at the 6.12 kilometres long Guia Circuit, the Swede crossed the finish line in second place.

He toppled António Félix da Costa (Carlin, 2:13.400 minutes), who had been leading after first qualifying, but eventually ended up second. Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam, 2:13.401 minutes) and Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport, 2:13.420 minutes), who were both racing in this year’s Formula 3 Euro Series, will be starting from the second grid row into tomorrow’s qualification race.

First qualifying for the Macau Grand Prix turned into a very close battle

With an advantage of only 0,02 seconds, António Félix da Costa (Carlin, 2:13.400 minutes) beat his main rival Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport, 2:13.420 minutes). At the 6.12 kilometres long street circuit in the former Portuguese colony, the Swede was the best-placed driver from the ranks of the Formula 3 Euro Series, which brought a total of five drivers into the top ten.

In the recent past, the races held in the former colony located on the South China Sea were dominated by Formula 3 Euro Series drivers: in 2009 and 2010, the prestigious event was won by Edoardo Mortara and last year, Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) took the chequered flag as race winner.

With his second place, the best-placed rookie Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport) came within 17 points of championship leader Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) while Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) recuded his gap to Juncadella, who dropped back with a technical problem, to 21.5 points with a third-place finish. Swede Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport) scored a lights-to-flag victory.

This weekend in Spain, the Formula 3 Euro Series young-guns are entering the home straight of their 2012 season.

At Valencia, they will contest the 19th, 20th and 21st race of the year, with the season finale at Hockenheim following on 19th to 21st October. Championship leader Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) travels to the 4.005-kilometre circuit Ricardo Tormo with 187 points on his tally while second-placed Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport), the best rookie of the season, follows 25 points behind. Meanwhile, local hero Carlos Sainz (Carlin) also set himself the goal to shine in front of his home crowd.

Maiden fastest qualifying time in the Formula 3 Euro Series

At the 4.307 kilometres long race track at Zandvoort in The Netherlands, German rookie drivers Sven Müller (Prema Powertea, 1:30.320 minutes) presented himself in excellent shape. In Formula 3 Euro Series qualifying, he set the fastest time ahead of Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam, 1:30.369 minutes) and Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport, 1:30.392 minutes). As Müller also came out on top in the ranking of the second-fastest laps, he will also start the weekend’s first race from pole position.

At the 4.307-kilometre circuit embedded in the North Sea dunes, Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport) wants to confirm his good shape by adding more podiums to his tally. Thanks to his first Euro Series win he secured at the Nürburgring, the 17-year old German rookie worked his way up to second position in the championship behind the far more experienced Spaniard Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam).
