Last weekend’s fifth round of the Canadian Rally Championship crowned new Canadian champions Antoine L’Estage from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que. and co-driver Nathalie Richard from Halifax.

Second round of the 2011 Canadian Rally Championship
Rocky Mountain Rally: a new venue !
The second round of the Canadian Rally Championship will be held this Friday in Alberta with the 38th running of the Rocky Mountain Rally. The event will now run on a single day near Calgary around the Kananaskis Country, a first for this event that used to head south over the last twenty years. This year’s event sees six Mitsubishi cars composing the Brigade that will seek overall victory and two other class wins.

Italians Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi (Abarth Grande Punto) are the winners of the 38th Rally Croatia, second round of the FIA European Rally Championship. The reigning European champions led fellow countrymen Luca Betti and Maurizio Barone (Peugeot 207) and Polish Maciej Oleksowicz – Andrzej Obrebowski (Ford).

With a bright end to the second day, which had its peak in the fantastic performance amongst a crowd of spectators on the special stage in the town of Opatija (derived from the old circuit). Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi (Abarth) have stretched their led to a reassuring margin of one minute ahead of Luca Betti and Maurizio Barone (Peugeot).

While we wait for the grand finale of the second day, culminating in the final special stage in the city of Rijeka, Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi with the Abarth Grande Punto S2000 are still in the lead of the overall standings, but their advantage has been reduced by a few seconds since this morning, although they are still safe thanks to a new best stage time on SS 8.

Mitsubishi keen on F1-style electric car series
“Our employees are saying that we should definitely do it”
Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi has revealed its interest in F1 governing body the FIA’s plans to create a global racing series for electric cars. Recent reports said FIA president Jean Todt, who thinks the new category can be set up for 2013 and be run on formula one circuits, has been asked to create the series by the European Commission.

Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard, both of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu (QC) are among the favourites in this weekend’s Pacific Forest Rally, in British Columbia, the penultimate round of the 2010 Canadian Rally Championship. At the wheel of their Rockstar Royal Group Mitsubishi Evo X, the team has won four of the past five events in North America and is striving for a sixth win this weekend, which would vault them into the lead of the Canadian title hunt.

Subaru’s Richard second in Rocky Mountain Rally
Subaru entries also claim 3rd, 4th, and 5th positions
Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Patrick Richard and co-driver Alan Ockwell claimed second place in the Rocky Mountain Rally held this past weekend near Calgary, Alberta. First place was taken by Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard of Mitsubishi. After two events Subaru and Mitsubishi are tied for first in the Canadian Manufacturer’s Championship.
Last year, the Volkswagen team achieved victory by placing a diesel-powered vehicle on the highest step of the Dakar podium for the first time.

Final round of the Canadian Rally Championship
National title at stake for Mitsubishi at Tall Pines Rally
With the sixth and final round of the Canadian Rally Championship being held this weekend in Bancroft, Ontario, Antoine L’Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, in their 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, are one step closer to becoming national champions. If this happens, it will be a first for Mitsubishi in Canada.

Defending champion Stephane Peterhansel withdrew from the Dakar Rally with a broken engine on Friday, while Carlos Sainz won the seventh stage across the Andes and regained the lead. 
It might not even be homologated yet Mitsubishi’s all-new Lancer Evolution X has won its first rally.
