Gooden took his second win of 2012 at Mid-Ohio

Championship leader La Rocca looked untouchable, on pole by a huge margin on top of Saturday’s runaway win, but failed to finish, getting wrapped up in a controversial incident with Tim Paul.

Another La Rocca F2000 win

La Rocca leads at Mid-Ohio

F2000 Championship Series logoRobert La Rocca held off a very brief restart challenge and led all 18 laps from pole, taking his eighth win of 2012 with ease, and extending what is already a massive Championship points lead in the F2000 Series. La Rocca won round nine of the 2012, 14-race season, in the No. 10 HP-Tech Van Diemen, finishing ahead of John LaRue and Wyatt Gooden.

Thompson Scores First Win in Mid-Ohio Shootout

Thompson scored his first win

After 18 laps of five cars trading the top five spots back and forth, Colin Thompson vaulted from fourth to first with two laps to go, scoring his first career F1600 Formula F Championship Series win at Mid-Ohio. Better yet, the hotly-contested top five battle featured three different chassis and five aspiring drivers, the oldest of which was 22. Teammates Matias Koykka and Shae Davies completed the podium.

Spectrums Lead Mid-Ohio Practice

After two F1600 Formula F Championship Series practice sessions at Mid-Ohio, it was the Spectrum/Honda Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing duo of Matias Koykka and Shae Davies at the top of the time sheets in a fast morning session. In a slower afternoon session, however, it was Championship leader Brandon Newey on top for Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/ Agajanian in the Mygale/Honda.

The HP-Tech driver has been the class of the field in 2012, and has a runaway points lead ahead of what is becoming a tight battle for second, led by Wyatt Gooden.

Connery shooting for 2012 title with a RFR

F2000 Championship Series logo2011 Rookie of the Year standout Kyle Connery will be back in 2012 to run for the F2000 Championship Series title, only this time switching from his no. 91 Van Diemen to a new RFR chassis. Connery finished third in the 2011 title fight, driving for CC Autosport with James Lee Racing, winning six races along the way, including sweeping Road Atlanta and the season finale at Watkins Glen.

F2000 new logoKyle Connery made it three wins on the year and moved back into second place in the F2000 Championship Series standings, leading all 18 laps from pole at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Connery, driving the #91 Van Diemen, separated himself from the pack and held off the competition from a 28-car field on a mid-race restart to take his third win in eight races.

F2000 new logoChris Livengood started from the pole and led all 18 laps at Mid-Ohio to take his second career F2000 Championship Series win and second win at Mid-Ohio in a repeat performance of 2010. Livengood, driving for Work Racing with support from John Walko racing, led from the drop of the green, briefly holding off Brian Tomasi in the Afterburner Racing Van Diemen. F1600 F Championship logoAspiring racer Wyatt Gooden won at Mid-Ohio on his F1600 Formula F Championship Series debut, driving a Van Diemen/Honda prepared by veteran outfit Quantum Racing Services. Gooden started from pole and ran the fastest lap of the race, but had to fight his way back into the lead at one point from third, passing fellow aspiring drivers Sam Beasley and Mitch Martin on his way to victory. Masters Class veteran Tim Minor ended up on the top of the combined time sheets after three twilight practice sessions for the F2000 Championship Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in his #88 Ski Motorsports Van Diemen. Minor was followed by Championship leader Remy Audette, who was second fastest ahead of Zach Veach, for ArmsUp Motorsports, Kyle Connery and John LaRue.
