Kimi Raikkonen may have been tired of his engineer’s radio messages, but he was also looking after his “brand” en route to Abu Dhabi victory.
That is the view of former F1 driver Alex Wurz, referring to Finn Raikkonen’s series of pit-to-car radio exchanges that culminated in the now-famous refrain ‘Leave me alone – I know what I’m doing’ as he added a win to his 2012 F1 comeback.

Andy Shovlin has been promoted to the role of chief driver engineer at Mercedes GP for 2011, according to reports. Earlier this month, as it emerged that both Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg will have new race engineers next season, we reported that Briton Shovlin “will have a more general engineering role next year”.

Ross Brawn has denied claims a wave of layoffs is on the cards for the Mercedes GP staff.
At the end of a disappointing 2010 season, it is expected that – for example – chief driver engineers Andy Shovlin (Michael Schumacher) and Jock Clear (Nico Rosberg) are set to be replaced ahead of next season.
Phil Prew has worked alongside Hamilton since the British driver made his F1 debut three seasons ago, but he will now be the principal engineer for the entire team, McLaren announced on Monday.
